When asked whether he wanted another term, the president responded, “I like working.” “I’m not joking,” Trump said, when asked to clarify. “But I’m not — it is far too early to think about it.” When asked whether he has been presented with plans to allow him to seek a third term, Trump said, “There are methods which you could do it.” NBC News asked about a possible scenario in which Vice President JD Vance would run for office and then pass the role to Trump. Trump responded that “that’s one” method. “But there are others too,” Trump added. Asked to share another method, Trump simply responded “no.” Amending the Constitution to abolish the two-term limit would be exceedingly difficult, requiring either a two-thirds vote of Congress or two-thirds of the states agreeing to call a constitutional convention to propose changes. Either route would then require ratification from three-quarters of the states. FDR is the only president in the nation’s history who has been elected and served more than two terms, which was largely due to the political and economic climate at home and abroad, with his presidency unfolding amid the Great Depression and the beginning of World War II. “There are methods which you could do it,” Trump said when asked about how he could go about running for a third term. The outlet floated a possible method where Vice President JD Vance could run for the presidency, win and pass the torch to Trump. The president said such a scenario is one of the methods he could use to serve a third term. “But there are others too,” Trump added, without elaborating. “I like working,” he told the outlet when asked if he wants to serve another term. Trump has previously teased running for a third term, asking Republican lawmakers in January during a retreat, “Am I allowed to run again?” It’s likely not Constitutionally allowed right now, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be in the future. I could foresee President Trump making so many changes (like dissolving the IRS) and being so popular by the end of his term that the Constitution and specifically the 22nd Amendment could be amended. Reuters reports: President Donald Trump’s administration told Congress on Friday it would cut nearly all remaining jobs at the U.S. Agency for International Development and shut the agency, even as Trump promised that the U.S. would provide assistance to Myanmar following a devastating earthquake. Humanitarian aid experts expressed alarm at the new cuts to an agency whose humanitarian aid has gained Washington influence and saved lives across the globe for more than 60 years. USAID plays a major role in coordinating earthquake assistance. Thousands of USAID staff and Foreign Service officers assigned to the agency learned in an internal memo that all positions not required by law would be eliminated in July and September. The memo reviewed by Reuters was sent to staff by Jeremy Lewin, the agency’s acting deputy administrator and a member of billionaire Elon Musk’s job-cutting Department of Government Efficiency. DOGE oversaw a first round of cuts to USAID last month. The State Department notification to Congress of the job cuts, also seen by Reuters, said USAID missions worldwide would be closed and the agency’s remaining functions would be folded into State. Cuts at the agency have thrown humanitarian efforts around the world into turmoil. The latest notice came on the day that a powerful earthquake hit Thailand and Myanmar, toppling buildings and killing scores of people. USAID has historically played a major role in coordinating disaster relief efforts. A U.S. appeals court on Friday ruled that Musk and DOGE can keep making cuts to USAID while they appeal a lower court order that had barred them from doing so. U.S. Representative Gregory Meeks, top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said in a statement that closing USAID was illegal and aimed at withdrawing the U.S. “from its global leadership role with as much cruelty and disruption as possible.” FIRINGS INCLUDE FOREIGN SERVICE OFFICERS The exact number of personnel being fired was not immediately available. As of March 21, there were 869 U.S. direct hire personnel on active duty and working, while 3,848 others were on paid administrative leave, according to Stand Up for Aid, a grassroots advocacy group. The terminations also included thousands of Foreign Service officers on assignment to USAID around the globe, according to a source familiar with the matter. In his memo, Lewin said agency personnel worldwide would shortly receive emailed termination notices giving them the choice of being fired on July 1 or September 2. Over the next three months, the State Department would assume USAID’s remaining “life-saving and strategic aid programming,” he said, adding that USAID personnel will not automatically be transferred to the department, which would conduct “a separate and independent hiring process.” Trumpin January ordered a 90-day freeze of all U.S. foreign aid and a review of whether aid programs were aligned with his policy. He claimed without evidence that Musk had found fraud at the agency, which he said was run by “radical left lunatics.” Musk and DOGE gained access to USAID’s payment and email systems, froze many payments and told much of its staff they were being placed on leave. Musk said as recently as last month that it was a “crime” to publicly name other people who worked at DOGE, and his strict secrecy helped to keep DOGE employees out of the spotlight, even as they went about radically remaking the federal government and trying to dismantle entire agencies. But in a switch, Musk introduced a few other faces Thursday in a group interview on Fox News that featured some of his chief lieutenants. They included DOGE staffers who have worked quietly behind the scenes to upend key components of the U.S. government such as the Treasury Department and the Social Security Administration. Seven DOGE employees participated in the interview on “Special Report” hosted by Bret Baier, and it was by far their most extensive public comments since President Donald Trump began his second term on Jan. 20. The seven DOGE staffers struck a more technocratic tone than Musk often does in his rhetoric about the federal government. None referred to a chainsaw or a wood chipper — two of Musk’s go-to analogies — choosing instead to talk about the duplication they see in government software systems. “We really believe that the government can have an Apple Store-like experience: beautifully designed, great user experience, modern systems,” said Joe Gebbia, a co-founder of Airbnb who is focused on overhauling the retirement system for federal workers. Gebbia has a net worth of $8 billion, making him one of the 400 wealthiest people in the world, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Musk is ranked first, with $337 billion. DOGE staffers have generally kept a low profile, with news organizations relying sometimes on anonymous sources to compile lists of DOGE employees in defiance of threats by Musk. But some of the staffers interviewed Thursday, including Tom Krause, had previously popped up in lawsuits challenging DOGE’s authority. In February, after a lawsuit by labor unions, the Trump administration agreed that Krause’s access to Treasury Department payment systems would be “read only,” without the authority to make changes. Davis said the stakes for DOGE were high, arguing that the country was at risk of “going bankrupt.” Another DOGE staffer, Anthony Armstrong, formerly a Morgan Stanley investment banker who worked on Musk’s deal to buy X, said in the interview that he did not believe the changes brought on by DOGE had been as radical as critics argue.
