Sentencing for President Donald Trump on his guilty verdict in a New York hush-money case is postponed until at least September, a judge said on Tuesday, meaning the former president will no longer have a hearing on the matter just days before he receives the GOP’s presidential nomination at the party’s convention. Judge Juan Merchan shared the decision in a letter responding to communications from the defense and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg‘s team about pushing back the proceedings after the Supreme Court ruled on Monday that Trump is immune from prosecution for official acts as president in a separate case. The July 11 date Merchan previously picked for sentencing is “vacated,” the judge said, adding, “The Court’s decision will be tendered off-calendar on September 6, 2024 and the matter is adjourned to September 18, 2024, at 10:00 AM for the imposition of sentence, if such is still necessary, or other proceedings.” Trump’s attorneys requested to challenge their client’s guilty verdict and postpone the date for sentencing. A CNN source reportedly said the lawyers argued the Supreme Court’s immunity ruling affirmed their position that Bragg should not have been permitted to offer evidence at trial regarding official presidential acts. Prosecutors then told the judge they would not fight the Trump team’s request in a letter earlier on Tuesday, which said, in part, “Although we believe defendant’s arguments to be without merit, we do not oppose his request for leave to file and his putative request to adjourn sentencing pending determination of his motion.” CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP In May, jurors convicted Trump on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records to allegedly cover up a tryst with adult film actress Stormy Daniels as part of a “catch-and-kill” scheme to influence the 2016 election. Trump, who denied the affair and pleaded not guilty to the charges, vowed to appeal the verdict. Because Merchan had earlier picked a date for sentencing days before the GOP convention starting on July 15, Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Whatley told Newsmax last month that officials were preparing for the possibility that Trump would be in jail when he receives the party’s nomination. Three other criminal cases loom over Trump as he seeks a second term in the White House, including two led by special counsel Jack Smith: a 2020 election case and one that focuses on classified documents. Another 2020 election case came together in Georgia and is led by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. Trump has maintained his innocence throughout. Besides the hush-money case, it does not appear likely that any of the other cases will reach the trial stage before the November contest, in part due to the Supreme Court’s ruling on Monday that sent the federal election case back to a lower court for further review.

Arkansas Governor Sarah Sanders rolled out a proposal on Tuesday to incentivize schools in the state to ban cell phones from the classroom, according to a letter sent to schools across the state obtained by The Daily Wire. The idea is to improve students’ mental health by separating them from their phones, temporarily removing any anxiety their phones cause, encouraging in-person social interaction with friends, and fostering a better learning environment. “The program will address the symptoms of youth mental illness as well as one of its largest causes: screen addiction and social media,” Sanders said. The grant program will cover the cost of putting a cell phone ban into place, providing schools with secure pouches for students to store their phones during the school day. All Arkansas school districts are invited to join the pilot program, the governor and Arkansas Secretary of Education Jacob Oliva wrote in a letter to school superintendents. “We have made this a priority in our Administration, and we are committing state resources to help with this crisis,” Sanders and Olive said. “To that end, we are excited to announce a pilot program focused on two key priorities: restricting in-school phone use and mental healthcare. We invite your district to join this statewide effort.”  Sanders notes that youth depression, anxiety, and isolation have risen across the country, and that the average American teen now spends nearly five hours a day on social media, often while in school. Meanwhile, the teen suicide rate has spiked since smartphones became widespread, as has self-harm among girls especially. Teen math, reading, and science scores have dropped across the country. “That’s five hours a day not with friends, not outside, and not learning,” Sanders said in a video announcing the program. “The facts are grim, but there are things we can do to help.” “Big Tech created an addicting product and marketed it to the most impressionable population out there, our kids,” she said. Sanders has emphasized education during her administration, saying she hopes to be known as the “Education Governor.” She successfully pushed Arkansas’ legislature to pass a universal school choice bill that also removed obscene sexual materials and critical race theory from classrooms, established new education standards, and raised teacher pay. Sanders also led Arkansas in passing a law requiring minors to get parental permission to sign up for a social media account, although that law was blocked by a federal judge. Public schools that participate in Arkansas’ new program will be rewarded with additional funding, including extra funding for telehealth mental health services. They will also get extra support in navigating mental and behavioral health care, substance abuse care, and social services for students, families, and school employees, as well as help with navigating insurance. Last month, Sanders and the state education secretary met with several Arkansas superintendents and took their recommendations into account when crafting the program, the governor’s office said. The grant program will be available for schools next academic year.

A young man who openly boasted that he turned in his own father to the FBI for attending the January 6, 2021 Capitol protest was rewarded by liberals with nearly $200,000, which he raised on GoFundMe, saying he would “save[] it for years to come.” After Jackson Reffitt, a long-haired, far-left Texan who is now 21, turned in his father to the FBI and then testified against him at trial, his father, Guy Reffitt, was sentenced to more than seven years in prison. Jackson first ratted on his father even before January 6, with the then-18 year old filing an online tip on Christmas Eve, 2020 that his dad “was going to do something big.” After his father returned, Jackson secretly recorded him discussing his actions, then gave the recordings to the FBI.  On January 16, 2021, the FBI raided the family home and arrested Guy. On January 22, Jackson went on CNN to take credit, saying his dad is “an adult and made his own decisions.” Former CNN anchor Chris Cuomo praised him. Then he created a GoFundMe to cash in, saying he “was interviewed on CNN and got so much support from thousands of people.” “So many asked for a Go Fund Me so here it is. Every penny is another course in college or me saving it for years to come. I might be kicked out of my house due to my involvement in my dad’s case, so every cent might help me survive,” the page read. It raised $195,000 from 5,500 people. According to public records, Jackson attended Collin County Community College, and the median home value in his area is $187,000. Jackson’s own social media feed is full of posts praising left-wingers who occupy universities and clash with police in ways similar to January 6. In court, Guy cried as his son testified against him for three hours, with the son saying he didn’t regret turning him in. The judge said in imposing a sentence that, “He bragged to his family about what he did at the Capitol. Those comments were taped by his son Jackson.” On Tuesday, in an interview with The Daily Beast, he said, “My dad ran up the Capitol steps under Trump flags.”  Guy did not enter the Capitol or engage in any violence, though he brought a gun with him to D.C. and spent 44 minutes on an outside staircase, records show. Jackson now blames Trump for his father’s incarceration, saying, “Trump destroyed my whole family… Without Trump, my family would still be together. I 100 percent guarantee you. It was a perfect family.” Xi Van Fleet, who escaped Communist China, said this is reminiscent of China under Mao. “Family members turning against each other was the hallmark of Mao’s Cultural Revolution. Now it is in America,” Van Fleet said. James Lindsay, a scholar of Marxism, said it was “classic Communist behavior. Brainwashed against his family then externalizes and misdirects the blame against the object of political hatred.” Soviet propaganda lauded Pavlik Morozov, a 13-year old boy who was praised by the authorities as a martyr after turning in his father for consorting with “enemies of the Soviet state.” His father was given the death penalty, and other family members were said to have killed the boy in retribution. In 2023, the Washington Post painted a portrait of a family that was seeking reconciliation. The mother supports her husband, and Jackson’s sisters are no fans of Trump, but think it doesn’t excuse turning on their father, it said. One of the sisters began having panic attacks, while another moved to D.C. and held vigils outside the jail in support of her father. Guy took responsibility for his actions and forgave his son, the Post said.  But Jackson was more stubborn. When his mother broke down, saying “I don’t know what to do anymore,” he began lecturing her about politics. When they came together again to forgive and move on, Jackson trotted out a list he had compiled of the family betraying him by commenting on his betrayal, dredging up that his sister once said he was “making the family a political statement and sold ya’ll out.”

Paul Vaughn, a pro-life father of 11, escaped prison time on Tuesday after he was sentenced in Nashville over his participation in a peaceful protest at a Tennessee abortion facility March 2021. The Biden administration had asked for one year of prison time, but U.S. District Judge Aleta Trauger decided to impose no prison time or fine, sentencing Vaughn to three years of supervised release. Vaughn was convicted of violating the FACE Act and in participating in a conspiracy against rights. The Biden Justice Department brought charges against Vaughn and 10 other pro-lifers present at a sit-in at the Carafem Health Center Clinic in Mt. Juliet. When given an opportunity to speak, Vaughn said that the “reason I am engaged in activities is because I care for my country.” He added that it was between the judge and God whether he should be “locked up.” An overflow room crowded with supporters of Vaughn watching the proceedings at the courthouse erupted into cheers after Trauger said she would impose no jail time. Vaughn still faces severe penalties for his convictions. As a felon, he can no longer vote or own a firearm. Trauger also imposed restrictions on travel and where he can go. At the protest where Vaughn was present, a group of pro-lifers gathered on the second floor of an office building in the hallway outside the Carafem abortion facility. The group prayed, sang hymns, and urged women showing up to the clinic not to get abortions. No one present was charged with committing any violence. On Monday night, around 200 pro-lifers, including Vaughn and his family, gathered at Christ Church Nashville to sing, pray, and read the Bible. During the rally, Vaughn gave brief remarks talking about how the legal battle had been difficult on his family, but that his Christian faith remained strong. “It’s real easy for me. I can go and go to battle and go to jail as an individual, and it’s not a big loss,” Vaughn said. “The challenge comes when you’re leading your family through it, when you’re talking to your 3-year-old and your 23-year-old and your other family.” Several co-defendants of Vaughn, including Cal Zastrow, Dennis Greene, and Coleman Boyd, are all scheduled to be sentenced on Wednesday by Trauger.

Young people, and young men in particular, are losing faith in the country’s education system. They are opting out of college in record numbers. This trend has been ongoing for some time, and now it’s coming to a head.  For me, this topic is personal. Both of my parents were university professors. Academia put food on our table. I’ve witnessed firsthand the positive effects that a successful and vibrant college can have on small towns and communities.  But increasingly, this industry is weakening. The financial implications may have yet to be felt, but the writing is on the wall. For the first time in U.S. history, our sons will have less education than their fathers. That statement would have been unfathomable to grandfathers like mine who sacrificed on a daily basis, so that my parents could get college degrees. They did so because the return on investment was clear: Those degrees led to better jobs, which led to more money. For most college grads though, that is no longer the case. More and more, universities have prioritized short-term profits over the quality of knowledge taught. They favor Left-wing political ideology over long standing pursuits of truth. Here’s one report from just a few days ago to set the stage:   According to census data, more women than men have college degrees in this country now. Women are more likely to graduate within four years than men. Women make up 64.4% of Pharmacy students;Women make up 56% of law school students: ; and as of the 2023-2024 school year, they make up more than 55% of students in medical schools.  In a 2015 study, using international data, researchers have determined that girls outperform boys in educational achievement in 70% of the countries they studied — regardless of the level of gender, political, economic, or social equality. Now, for some of these zero-sum percentages to be tilted in favor of women, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. We have an entire country of highly capable females, we need many of them to get degrees and assist in the workforce. This is not a negativity-session on women going to college. As I said, both of my parents excelled in academia. My mother has a PhD. My wife has a high-pressure career. Many of the department heads here at The Daily Wire are capable women, some graduated from college, some didn’t.  However, those who say, it’s a good sign that more women are doing well in higher education, must also admit, it’s a bad sign that more and more men are doing poorly. Or better yet, let’s understand that living fulfilling lives, and building better families and communities is the ultimate goal, not simply filling up more classrooms, and obtaining more degrees. Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker was chastised for making this point during his commencement speech at Benedictine College several weeks ago. WATCH:   It’s barely acceptable to embrace masculine virtue in the NFL anymore, and it’s completely taboo at colleges in this country. The experts have it all figured out, though. According to them, girls are performing better because they gave higher GPAs. This is why I’ve said for years, we need new metrics for intelligence. We need new identifiers for capability. GPAs, SATs, IQs? Give me one solid mechanic who can fix my car over this year’s entire Harvard class. I mean it. Harvard — once seen as the beacon for collegiate learning across the world — now appears before the Supreme Court to defend enrollment discrimination against Asians.  Those higher GPAs are merely a symptom of a larger issues. So, what are the issues? First, personality. Much of the Western world right now will have you believe there is no difference whatsoever between men and women. So much so that one bearded, flannel-wearing man had to traverse the entire planet asking the simple question, “What is a Woman?” Dr. Jordan Peterson frequently cites this difference in personality when he speaks about agreeableness. Research shows that “agreeable” students tend to get better grades than their IQ would predict. Intuitively, this makes sense. If a student is on the borderline between passing and failing, teachers are going to “pass” the agreeable student, and “fail” the disagreeable. I can’t help but think of the distinction between Howard Roark and Peter Keating in the novel “The Fountainhead.” If you haven’t read it, you should. Roark, the most uncompromising character, the man who valued integrity above compromise, was expelled from school, while his classmate, who copied all of Roark’s work, became valedictorian. The problem is, women make up over 89% of elementary school teachers. So many young boys get a slow start. Young boys without fathers, get an even slower start. While we’re on grade school, how about limiting recess? Eliminating this period may sound like a good idea to some who see it as a waste of time, but its removal has significant ramifications on boys in particular. Researchers in the Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport found: The more time kids in [first grade] spent sitting and the less time they spent being physically active, the fewer gains they made in reading and math. … Among girls, sitting for a long time without moving much didn’t seem to have any effect on their ability to learn. Anyone who has sons and daughters understands this without needing statistics.  What makes the topic of men performing poorly in higher learning so much more painful, is that the outcome seems intentional. Western society is prioritizing feminine interests over masculine interests in every facet of society. The goalposts are being shifted to ensure success for some members of our society, but not others. In that, the pursuit of truth, and knowledge, and learning is lost. And let’s be honest, that learning is not just lost for men. Degrees all across this country are being watered down for every student holding a diploma. So here are four solutions we must implement to revitalize our higher education system to the standard America needs. First, pointless curricula that offer no market-place value, and provide no opportunity for students to monetize their learnings, must be eliminated from public universities. The University of South Carolina, for example, has a course called “Lady Gaga and the Sociology of Fame.” The sociology professor behind that course told the New York Times that, “The central objective is to unravel some of the sociologically relevant dimensions of the fame of Lady Gaga.” Cornell University, an Ivy League school, offers “Tree Climbing.” I’m not making this up. Cornell says the class will, “teach you how to get up into the canopy of any tree, to move around, even to climb from one tree to another without touching the ground.” That’s called being six-years-old. Go shadow Tarzan for a day, this shouldn’t be offered at Cornell, private school or not. Pitzer College offers “Social Justice Activism;” Texas A&M offers “Paintball;” Denison College offers “Queer Studies;” Santa Clara provides lectures about “The Physics of Star Trek,” and George Mason has a course that’s simply called “Zombies.” (Personally, having established yesterday that zombies are indeed real, I’d go with Michigan State’s version of that course, which is called “Surviving the Coming Zombie Apocalypse—Disasters, Catastrophes, and Human Behavior”). But maybe the worst offender is Bates College in Maine, which offers a class on Whoopi Goldberg called “Makin’ Whoopi: Goldberg’s Canon.” If you wanted to make college as unappealing as possible to intelligent and ambitious young men, these are the kinds of courses you’d offer them. And since the information being taught, can just as easily be learned over the internet, what’s really being paid for, what’s really being purchased is the degree. Only those are becoming more and more worthless to employers, because they’ve started to understand that a college degree no longer guarantees, that their new hire possesses a superior set of skills to the non-college grad. Second solution, we must substantially limit access to federally-backed student loans. Colleges have been given every incentive to hike tuition costs while offering no additional value, knowing that student loan “forgiveness” — which is really student loan redistribution — has taken all risk away from borrowers. It’s the taxpayers — you and me — who are forced to foot the bill. No money lender in the country would loan a hundred thousand dollars to a 17-year-old kid, even if he had the most exceptional business plan, and jaw-dropping pitch deck. Mark Zuckerberg was getting turned down for pitching Facebook two decades ago, but a similar 17-year-old today can now get a $100,000 loan to study underwater basket weaving without so much as a single sentence explaining how he will monetize this knowledge and pay back the loan. That’s a problem. That’s hurting America. Third, stop teaching children that college degrees are essential to success. Of course colleges don’t want to hear that, but it’s imperative for the rest of us to explain this to our children. Some kids need trade school. My brother studied aviation maintenance. He can fix airplane engines. It’s a very important and in-demand skill, if he had only started earlier we might not have planes falling from the sky. For some people, it’s important to start working right away, rather than taking what has become a four year vacation, racking up debt along the way. There are interesting and lucrative jobs in this world, that most people know nothing about. You don’t have to get an accounting degree and become a consultant. That’s why Mike Rowe and his show “Dirty Jobs” is so important. He highlights the beaver relocators and the caviar harvesters and the fossil hunters and the “doomsday seed bankers” — jobs most of us haven’t even heard of. Even when young people decide to go to college, it’s important they understand that the most “prestigious” degrees don’t ultimately determine success. As Dave Ramsey pointed out, roughly two-thirds of millionaires graduated from public state schools. Only about 8% went to elite private colleges. And 12% of millionaires didn’t go to college at all. Finally, it’s past time to abolish diversity, equity, and inclusion, and affirmative action initiatives that drive no meaningful diversity. Some states have already made that decision, but it needs to go nationwide. The kind of diversity that’s important is diversity based on ability, and thought, and the geography of a person’s origin in some instances, but not diversity based on immutable characteristics that people can’t control. A young kid who shows exceptional promise of becoming a great engineer needs to have that opportunity even though he may come from a low-income family who can’t afford college. Those types of scholarships are important, and they exist for good reason. I’ll use myself as an example. I was able to attend the University of Michigan on an athletic scholarship. There’s no way I could have met their academic requirements, or afforded out-of-state tuition to attend that school, but I could play football. That’s how I contributed. It’s what I brought to the table. A different skill set than other students. True diversity. And when we end the practice of accepting students based on their metaphysical makeup, despite their lack of readiness for that opportunity, dropout rates will go down significantly for those very students. If you really want to understand this concept to its fullest extent, I encourage you to read Heather Mac Donald’s book, “The Diversity Delusion.” It’s poignant, prophetic, Ms. Mac Donald is a brilliant thinker and writer.  Bottom line, universities should not be four year vacation centers where one explores how decadent and depraved he can behave. Diplomas should not be meaningless pieces of paper that we obtain simply to hang on the wall so we appear smart to all who enter our office. The goal isn’t to hand out as many degrees as we can. The goal is to pass down, from generation to generation, the most essential knowledge that we possess for the betterment of our lives, our families, and our future generations.

Those with access to President Joe Biden behind closed doors say that his condition is deteriorating at an accelerated rate as he continues to face growing calls to step aside as the party’s presidential nominee this fall following his disastrous debate performance last week, according to reports. The New York Times reported that those closest to Biden have noticed that he “increasingly appeared confused or listless, or would lose the thread of conversations” and that these incidents are “growing more frequent, more pronounced and more worrisome.” Biden was so worn out from trips to Europe prior to last week’s debate that he had to be “given time for an afternoon nap each day” during his week-long debate prep — in which he never started work earlier than 11 a.m. — in order to recharge his batteries. The report highlighted numerous incidents that happened while he was in Europe that turned into viral videos on social media, including embarrassing moments at the D-Day anniversary ceremony in France and his subsequent trip to Italy for the G7 Summit. The White House is refusing to let Kevin C. O’Connor, the White House physician, answer questions from the media about Biden’s condition and said that O’Connor does not believe that Biden needs to be re-evaluated for Parkinson’s disease — even though the condition that most speculate Biden has is some form of dementia. The administration went even further and denied that Biden had ever taken “Levodopa or other drugs for that condition.” Presidential historian Douglas Brinkley said that it was visibly obvious that “there’s been a slowdown in the past two years” for Biden and that the administration is trying hard to only show “the Biden they want us to see.” The report noted that Biden has granted fewer interviews than any president in modern history and has held fewer press conferences than any president in over 40 years. European leaders reportedly could not stop talking about Biden’s condition and took steps to avoid embarrassing him by either walking too fast or letting him wander off. The Financial Times reported this week that European officials were outright terrified over Biden’s shape as they worried about whether he had the juice to finish the presidential race. The report highlighted public comments from numerous officials who said that Democrats needed to replace Biden before it was too late. As Biden appears to be circling the drain, his inner circle is tightening its grip on power and shielding him even more from public view in an effort to protect him from making further mistakes. NBC News reported on Tuesday that Biden’s son, convicted felon and drug addict Hunter Biden, was now attending official White House meetings with the president to the shock of most in the administration.

Daily Wire podcast host Andrew Klavan spoke to Megyn Kelly on Tuesday about the Democrats’ possible next moves following President Joe Biden’s disastrous debate. During Klavan’s appearance on Sirius XM’s “The Megyn Kelly Show” podcast, Kelly asked Klavan what the Democrats can do after Biden struggled and stumbled during CNN’s presidential debate against former President Donald Trump. “And so, I’m not convinced that the elected Democrats are going to stand behind him. … They don’t want Kamala Harris,” Kelly said. “That’s the big question: What do you do with a problem like Kamala?” “This is their fault,” Klavan said. “They created this situation. Joe Biden said he was going to appoint a minority woman to the vice presidency. He did. He forgot to ask about qualifications. … Obviously, Kamala Harris is not fit to be president. She actually still has all her marbles, but she can’t do the job.” “And so they don’t know what to do because how do you solve a problem like Kamala? How do you replace her without violating the identity politics?” he added. “How do you find a politician who looks like a centrist, but will allow the party to follow the Left-wing agenda as Joe Biden has?” The Daily Wire host pointed out that the “mainstream of the Democrat party is very far Left.” He also said the party would have a difficult time letting a moderate “come in there and change direction.” “So, you can’t bring on a white man like the Governor of Kentucky [Andy Beshear],” Klavan said. “You have to find at least a female to replace him [Biden]. And who have you got? Raphael Warnock as the Vice President. Following the Biden-Trump debate, Kelly said during her 2024 Post-Debate Special, “In my view, it is over for Joe Biden. His presidential campaign came to an end tonight, whether he knows it or not. There will be meetings tonight, first thing tomorrow amidst Democratic Party leaders about how to get him off the ticket.” “How to change into someone else.
