The truth is what they really wanted was just a safe space for libs. They wanted a world carefully cultivated like a college campus where opinions range from the Left to Left-er and anyone who challenges their views with logic, like Charlie Kirk, is silenced when basic liberal assumptions are questioned. But as vicious as the hordes of hateful, random leftists have been on social media, it’s the mainstream outlets that behaved most shamefully when news of Kirk’s shooting broke. They revealed how much contempt they truly have for their fellow citizens who disagree with them. As news broke about the shooting, MSNBC political analyst Matthew Down appeared on Katy Tur’s program and said that Kirk was perhaps shot by one of his own supporters in “celebration.” Dowd, a Never Trump former Republican who was the chief strategist on President George W. Bush’s 2004 election campaign, insinuated that it was Kirk’s fault that he got shot because of his “hate speech.” “You can’t stop with these sort of awful thoughts you have, and then saying these awful words, and then not expect awful actions to take place,” Dowd said. I think it’s worth noting that this man was once a leading apparatchik in the Republican Party who clearly has a pathological contempt for conservatives. Dowd was rightly fired for his comments by MSNBC. “During our breaking news coverage of the shooting of Charlie Kirk, Matthew Dowd made comments that were inappropriate, insensitive, and unacceptable. We apologize for his statements, as has he. There is no place for violence in America, political or otherwise,” MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler said in a statement on MSNBC’s PR X account. I guess that’s good, but it should be noted that while Dowd made those comments, Tur did nothing to push back as she should have, being the host of the show. As her network showed video of people running from the gunshot that killed Kirk, Kur said that the conservative commentator was a “divisive” and polarizing” figure.” She also said that the Trump administration would use the shooting “as a justification for something.” Shawn Fleetwood at the Federalist said it well: “If anything, Tur’s rhetoric represents a perfect encapsulation of what America’s media have become: a propaganda arm of the Democrat Party whose concern for basic decency pales in comparison to their addiction to the leftist pagan religion they follow.” Kur wasn’t alone in using the moment of Kirk’s shooting and death to insist that he was “divisive.” Here’s how The New York Times first reported Kirk’s assassination. “Charlie Kirk, Right-Wing Provocateur and Close Ally of Trump, Dies at 31.” This was the New York Times’s original headline for the Charlie Kirk obituary (they’ve now changed it). Calling him a provocateur, someone who “provokes” trouble, was a grotesque way of suggesting he brought his own murder on himself. He tweeted relentlessly with a brash right-wing spin, unencumbered by inconvenient facts.” Not to be outdone, the New Republic went with the headline “MAGA Troll Charlie Kirk Shot During Speaking Event at University.” They later deleted their X post with that headline and later changed it to say “MAGA Pundit,” but I got the receipt. This was your publication @newrepublic. https://t.co/LA20hViJqF pic.twitter.com/TfrrQLiDSq— Jarrett Stepman (@JarrettStepman) September 10, 2025 CNN anchor and chief legal strategist Laura Coates said on her network that if the shooting was “in fact tied to [Kirk’s] political ideology, given the fact that he is quite the lightning rod in many communities and has been accessible, and yet controversial, you‘ve got a very terrifying prospect for so many people who share his similar qualities.” ABC News’ Kyra Phillips said that Kirk “has said a number of controversial things over the years,” against a litany of groups. The Democratic Party promotes extremist, “divisive” policies that are disliked by most Americans. Does that mean it’s open game now of liberal political figures? It’s striking how much the mainstream Left has internalized the idea that words are violence, and that violence in response is perhaps imprudent, but ultimately justified. When these liberal outlets had time to reset and reflect a bit, virtually all of them condemned political violence, but then with the narrative that this was a problem caused by both sides. Some liberal outlets are seemingly making a reversal on their immediate hot takes now that the dust is settling on this assassination. But from their initial reactions, it certainly sounds like many truly believe that those who oppose the Left’s political project deserve to be punished or maybe even die for their views. On a reflective episode of The Dana Show podcast, simulcast on The First, host Dana Loesch sat down with MRC President David Bozell to honor the extraordinary life and tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk. Bozell’s opening words captured the weight of the loss: “Charlie Kirk was certainly the best at creating an activist organization in the conservative movement. He was one of, if not the best, public speakers we had in our ranks. He combined all of that and started a podcast, and then started his family. He had this prolific career; he was the Rush Limbaugh of our time in that respect.” Loesch set the stage for the conversation by highlighting Charlie’s unique ability to connect with audiences. She described him as “naturally inquisitive,” bringing a “warm and genuine insight” to every endeavor, whether rallying young conservatives or engaging listeners through his podcast. His zeal inspired countless followers, and his loss leaves a void in the movement. Bozell built on this, emphasizing Charlie’s unparalleled impact. “He was a one-of-one,” Bozell said, comparing him to Rush, a singular voice who reshaped conservatism. “He will be sorely missed. He’s not going to be replaced by one particular individual. We’re all going to have to combine all of our forces and try to accomplish as much as he has.” The conversation took a turn to the circumstances surrounding Charlie’s death. His final tweet, Bozell pointed out, called out an “assassination culture” fueled by a study showing growing acceptance of violence over speech. “The media was one of the last things that Charlie tweeted about,” Bozell noted, tying the tragedy to a broader decline in discourse. He reflected on how personal attacks for one’s beliefs have become commonplace, a sentiment Charlie himself had highlighted. Loesch praised NewsBusters for exposing “media malpractice.” She wondered aloud if the media’s failure to recognize their missteps in covering Charlie’s death might finally erode their credibility. Bozell noted that while “95% of the coverage was measured” initially, with even liberal anchors offering condolences, the tone shifted quickly. CBS’s Nate Burleson challenged Kevin McCarthy, implying that Republican rhetoric bore responsibility. Meanwhile, “MSNBC’s Matthew Dowd got fired yesterday due to his comments about Charlie,” for falsely suggesting a supporter’s gun misfired. Bozell was skeptical. “Is a murder going to change them? Maybe, but I doubt it,” he said. “The political left has declared a jihad against the right wing. I have no other way of putting it. They would rather see us in the grave than debate us openly in public. Bozell urged conservatives to recognize this hostility and stand resolute, emphasizing that now is not the time to retreat or be silenced. Bozell cautioned that legacy media, tightly entwined with tech giants like Google and Apple, still reach millions despite declining viewership. To truly diminish their influence, their credibility must erode further. “We cannot have 30% of the country believe these guys anymore. That’s got to get down into the teens or less. They must be marginalized,” he insisted. Yet, even with 95% of the media showing some respect toward Kirk — for now — Bozell warned that the cycle of division could reignite swiftly: “It’s just going to take one of them to call us Hitler or fascist again, and then it’ll be Katie bar the door all over again.” Loesch closed with heartfelt gratitude: “We appreciate everything that you and MRC do, and NewsBusters. Even by the standards of flippant Nazi analogies, Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart had an especially ill-timed Nazi comparison on Wednesday as he taped The Weekly Show podcast before Charlie Kirk’s assassination and ahead of its Thursday release. According to Stewart, President Trump sending ICE to Chicago can be roughly analogized with Nazi invasions in World War II. Stewart began, “It is, we're taping this on Wednesday, September 10th, it's gonna be airing tomorrow, and today is the day they launched Operation Midway Blitz. Named for the city of Chicago and what the Nazis did through Europe. What could go wrong?” “Blitz” just means lightning. Has Stewart ever watched a football game where the defense blitzes the quarterback? The Seattle Seahawks’ mascot is named Blitz. Is he a Nazi? What about Chicago’s former USFL team, the Chicago Blitz?     Alluding to a Trump Truth Social post, Stewart continued as he introduced his guest, “They'll find out why it's called the Department of War, and by the way, I don't believe that's Wins Above Replacement. But we are fortunate enough today to be speaking with the field general who is tasked with repulsing this military incursion, and that is the governor of the great state of Illinois. He is joining us now from the front lines. Let's go to him now. Governor JB Pritzker. So, ladies and gentlemen, we are obviously, we have a correspondent in the war zone that is now Illinois. It is Governor JB Pritzker. Sir, welcome to the show.” Stewart then wondered, “Operation Midway Blitz, is it underway in Chicago? Has Chicago fallen? What, what is this? What the hell is happening?” Pritzker began by lamenting, “Well, reporting to you from the front lines, ICE is on the ground. We have already seen some arrests. They are not in full force yet. We know they have as many as 300 agents that have landed at the naval station at Great Lakes and they are—” Despite the fact the military is not actually on the ground in Chicago, Stewart continued with the World War II theme, “Did they take watercraft and do a water landing and then storm the beach?” Pritzker reiterated that, so far, only ICE is involved but warned the administration wants a pretext to send the troops in, “They have come with 100 vehicles. They are unmarked vehicles, and we know that they are preparing to span all of Chicago, and indeed some of the arrests that occurred yesterday were in suburbs of Chicago. So, it's a pretty widespread endeavor, and it's being led by Gregory Bovino, who led the ICE raids in Los Angeles and caused all of that mayhem on the ground. That's their intention here, but to do it, you know, even more so here because Donald Trump wants to create a situation for Chicago where he can bring in the National Guard.” For a man who is constantly freaking out about Trump cancelling elections, Pritzker sure has been doing a lot of interviews recently to get his name recognition up for 2028. Maybe eventually an interviewer can point out the flaw in arguing that ICE “caused all of that mayhem.” ICE didn’t cause that; the rioters used their free will to engage in lawlessness. In the meantime, recent developments should lead Stewart to quit trivializing Nazi crimes by comparing them to standard law enforcement operations. Yesterday, Charlie Kirk, beloved conservative voice and founder of Turning Point USA, was shot and killed by a gunman while speaking at an event for his American Comeback Tour on the Utah Valley University campus in Orem, Utah.The news of his death has shaken conservative America to its core.“I’ve only felt this way one time before,” Glenn Beck says. “I had just signed a contract with Premiere Radio Networks, and my show was to begin on January 1, 2002. And then tragedy struck at the World Trade Center, and I was called and told, ‘You start tomorrow.’”“I spent most of the day and the night by my bedside praying for the words to share with you on that day. I spent most of the day yesterday in that same position. As the manhunt continues for the assassin in the killing of Charlie Kirk, Democratic leaders are deflecting blame while hypocritically pointing the finger at Republicans. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, both New York Democrats, rushed to gain the attention of media microphones to inoculate the left from blame. 'This is awful and the assassination of Charlie Kirk risks an uncorking of political chaos and violence that we cannot risk in America.' Schumer and Jeffries were asked by a reporter to comment on President Donald Trump blaming the left for the rhetoric that may have led to the assassination of the conservative activist. "This is a time that all Americans should come together and mourn what happened. Violence, which affects so many different people of so many different political persuasions, is an affliction of America," said Schumer to reporters. "And coming together is what we ought to be doing, not pointing fingers of blame," he continued. "This moment requires leadership that brings the American people together as opposed to further divide us," said Jeffries. "Political violence in any form against any American is unacceptable, to be denounced by everyone, and moving forward, we have to figure out a better way to come together," he added. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York made an especially passionate screed against Trump. “They can finger-point all they want. I don't think a single person who has dedicated their entire career to preventing gun safety legislation from getting passed in this House has any right to blame anybody else but themselves for what has happened!" she added. "When a politician tries to blame words for an action, they need to look at their action and their record. Enough of this! This is horrific," Ocasio-Cortez continued. Several University of Texas at Austin students disgustingly celebrated the murder of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.'People were very confrontational, stating that he had gotten what he deserved.'Voz Media interviewed roughly a dozen students at the university on Wednesday, moments after a shooter struck Kirk, and their responses to the atrocious event were shocking.When asked to explain how they felt about the shooting, multiple students answered that they were pleased."Did you see that Charlie Kirk just got shot and killed?" the interviewer asked."That's good," one student responded."Girl, someone had to do it," a second student replied. Ruth Marshall is an associate professor for the study of religion and political science at the University of Toronto. She was among the many leftists who evidently figured the assassination of Charlie Kirk on Wednesday was a good thing. Marshall actually went a step further than some radicals, suggesting the fatal shooting of the unarmed father of two was not brutal enough.Marshall — a radical who has spent well over a decade yammering about post-colonialism, the limits of liberalism, and religious violence — wrote in an X post just hours after the Turning Point USA founder was fatally shot while attempting to engage in spirited debate on a university campus, "Shooting is honestly too good for so many of you fascist c**ts."RELATED: New York Times continues SPLC demonization of Charlie Kirk, accuses him of provocation Andrew Harnik/Getty Images Ontario Premier Doug Ford told the Toronto Sun on Thursday, "That is disgusting.""Sick people," the premier added.Hours after Blaze News pressed the university and its chancellor for comment on Marshall's vile remarks, a spokesperson responded, stating, "The university took immediate action upon learning of the concerning social media posts of a University of Toronto professor. The faculty member is now on leave and not on campus."It should be noted that being put on leave is not the same as being terminated."The matter is being looked into, and the University will not be commenting further," the spokesperson added.The Toronto Sun's Brian Lilley claimed that Marshall, whose banner image on X signals her support for so-called decolonization in both Canada and the Middle East, recently called his publication a fascist organization and implored other radicals to shut it down.Marshall did not respond to Blaze News' request for comment by deadline.Other callous academics came out of the woodwork in the immediate aftermath of Kirk's death, signaling their tolerance for slaughtering people who hold differing viewpoints.Joseph Derosier, a professor of international studies at Beloit College in Wisconsin who writes about queer theory, appears to be among them.
