A Biden Judge Wants to Keep TPS Haitians in the USA

Federal judge Ana Reyes, a leftist activist, blocked the actions of DHS Secretary Kristi Noem to end Temporary Protected Status for well over a quarter of a million Haitians. Reuters reported that the [Biden] judge said this would protect them from deportation. She claimed it violated procedures. Reyes said in the ruling that Homeland Security […] The post A Biden Judge Wants to Keep TPS Haitians in the USA appeared first on www.independentsentinel.com.

A Mother’s Case For The Return Of The American Dream

A Mother’s Case For The Return Of The American Dream

I grew up believing America is the land of opportunity. Over the last few years, however, I have begun to wonder if that America still exists. Are we still the kind of nation where children can realistically pursue happiness, homeownership, and the American Dream? Even in the face of endless division and media narratives designed to make families doubt it, I believe, perhaps now more than ever, the answer is yes. That’s due in large part to the Trump administration introducing Trump Accounts, a major step in setting American children up for success. And that means a lot to this mother of three with a newborn at home. During the Biden years, I was genuinely scared about the financial state of our country. Inflation was out of control, crime was rising, and the value of the dollar felt meaningless. I couldn’t help but wonder if my kids would ever be able to afford homes, raise families, or even live independently in the country I love. That fear is exactly why I pleaded with other moms to vote for Donald Trump. And now, everything feels different. Last month, I gave birth to my youngest daughter, Monroe Lee, a name rooted in American history. And for the first time in years, I feel something I haven’t felt in a long time about this country, real hope for the American Dream. Inflation and crime are down, and Wall Street can’t outbid first-time home buyers. Under President Trump, the American Dream feels alive and well again. That’s why Trump Accounts hit me personally. These investment accounts are brilliant in their simplicity. This isn’t some complicated, exclusive program — it’s a literal capital investment that starts growing right away. A $1,000 jumpstart for a better future. If we want our nation to prosper, we must facilitate individual prosperity, and one of the easiest ways to kickstart long-term, widespread opportunity is to give every child a personal stake in the nation’s success from day one. Not only will they grow into more financially independent adults — reducing long-term reliance on government programs — but they will be literal stakeholders in America’s prosperity itself. With skin in the game, they’ll be eager to contribute so they can reap the financial benefits of their hard work, thereby driving progress and innovation. It’s textbook win-win-win. While my first two children were born during the dark economic days under Biden, my third qualifies for a Trump Account. If we simply open the account, that original $1,000 could be up to $8,000 by age 18, and over $18,000 by age 28. It could potentially turn into tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars by adulthood — especially if parents and family contribute. Under current guidance, parents, employers, and even philanthropists can add to these accounts, and contributions are invested in low-cost, diversified funds designed for growth.  nicoletaionescu. Getty Images. This is the kind of financial opportunity that creates generational wealth — something that has, for too long, mostly been accessible only to the already wealthy. But Trump Accounts change that by giving every child a tangible financial head start. The tragic reality is that most Americans lack the kind of financial literacy and experience that builds wealth. That’s why it often seems that the rich get richer: they know what they’re doing, and oftentimes they have a head start. While the American Dream provides endless opportunities, that means little to those who don’t know how to take advantage of them. But Trump Accounts make it as easy as it’s ever going to get to break the curse of generational poverty and shrink economic disparities. Hard-working Americans — parents, grandparents, employers, and even outside donors like Michael and Susan Dell — can contribute to these accounts over the years so kids can watch their money grow with them. Major financial firms have committed to matching contributions for employees’ children, and some philanthropic investments provide additional seed funds for those who otherwise might be left out.  Even just that sense of security in knowing there’s money in the bank can pave the way for children to pursue greater opportunities as they unfold before them. By the end of President Trump’s term, 25 million American children could have investment accounts growing in their name — if only parents and families simply take advantage of this opportunity. As a mother, I’m perpetually thinking about the long game: Am I teaching my kids the skills they’ll need as they grow? Am I instilling values that lead to success? Am I doing everything I can to set them up for happiness and prosperity? But it isn’t just parents who should be thinking about these things. The whole nation should consider what we are doing now to build a better future for those coming after us. At the very least, every American child now has equal access to a seeded investment portfolio, regardless of race, creed, or economic status, thus creating unprecedented possibilities for tens of millions of Americans through generations to come. The clichés are real — the best time to start was yesterday, but the second-best time is now, because now is when their future starts. *** Jillian Anderson King is a former Washington Redskins Cheerleader Ambassador and ABC’s The Bachelor and The Bachelor in Paradise contestant. Virginia Democrats Feud With Each Other Over Redistricting Plans

Virginia Democrats Feud With Each Other Over Redistricting Plans

The Democratic effort to redraw Virginia’s congressional map is unraveling beneath the weight of internal party infighting, as leaders in Richmond miss their own deadlines and spar over which factions and politicians stand to benefit. A disagreement between Democrats in the Virginia Senate and House of Delegates has stalled plans to release a new congressional map, despite both chambers agreeing in principle on an aggressively gerrymandered split that awards 10 seats to Democrats and only one to Republicans. Party leaders passed a self-imposed January 30 deadline to unveil a proposal, and a scheduled negotiating session this week was abruptly canceled. The breakdown comes as Democrats insist that redistricting remains urgent following a judge’s order to block the effort. Party leaders have publicly vowed to fight the ruling, but behind the scenes, lawmakers appear divided over who gets what turf. At the center of the dispute is which side of the party stands to gain from the new map proposal. House of Delegates Democrats favor a proposal drafted by the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC) that targets four Republican-held seats and creates a new district anchored in Northern Virginia. Senate Democrats, however, have balked at that plan, arguing the new seat appears designed to favor a specific House member with close ties to leadership. The Senate’s alternative map would carve out new Democratic-leaning districts in Loudoun County and the Richmond area, a move critics say would conveniently position two sitting state senators for congressional runs. That proposal also risks forcing top Democratic recruits into the same district, creating a costly and avoidable primary fight. Virginia is a key battleground in the Democrats’ push to retake the U.S. House, with national party leaders eyeing a three-to-four-seat pickup through redistricting alone. But Democrats hold only a razor-thin majority in the state Senate, meaning a single defection could sink any proposal. Republicans have been quick to note that the Democratic redistricting push is driven by self-interest rather than necessity. The Republican Party of Virginia accused Democrats of missing their own deadline and devolving into internal squabbles over who gets to run in the districts they are trying to redraw. MORE PROOF that Democrats’ gerrymandering power grab is just about selfish ambition and nothing more. They said we’d see the maps by Jan. 30. Nearly a week later and guess what – NO MAPS! Now we have confirmed that the very people looking to blow up our maps and give themselves… pic.twitter.com/3duj8VSv99 — Virginia GOP (@VA_GOP) February 3, 2026 Virginia House Speaker Don Scott (D-VA) has remained in contact with U.S. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) throughout the process, while Virginia Senate leaders have separately expressed deep concerns about the NDRC-backed map. For now, both chambers say they’re working toward a compromise, though no new deadline for a plan has been announced. For a party arguing that redistricting is both urgent and necessary, the continued lack of a unified proposal raises questions about whether Democrats can translate that urgency into action. With competing maps, missed deadlines, and unresolved disputes between the House and Senate, the process appears increasingly shaped by internal dynamics rather than a shared strategy, complicating efforts to reshape the map as midterm deadlines tighten.

New Orleans Police Recruit Turns Out To Be Illegal Immigrant Fraudster

Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested an illegal immigrant accused of fraud who was just one week away from graduating the New Orleans Police Department academy, according to Fox News. Larry Temah, 46, who hails from Cameroon, was hired by the New Orleans Police Department in June, the agency’s superintendent, Anne Kirkpatrick, said following his arrest last month. The Department of Homeland Security slammed the department for not only hiring Temah, but also for arming him. “This illegal alien from Cameroon, Larry Temah, is not only breaking the law with every step he takes in this country illegally, but the New Orleans Police Department hired him and issued him a firearm – what kind of law enforcement department gives criminal illegal aliens guns and badges?” the agency said in a statement to Fox News. “It’s a FELONY for illegal aliens to even possess a firearm. Sanctuary cities like New Orleans ignore ICE detainers and are protecting illegal aliens at the expense of American citizens,” the agency said. Temah entered the United States in 2015 using a visitor’s visa, the Department of Homeland Security told Fox News. After marrying an American citizen in 2016, he was granted conditional residency. The federal government denied his application for permanent status in 2022, citing fraud. Temah failed to show for three separate hearings in immigration court, resulting in a judge issuing a deportation order. Temah, however, didn’t comply with that order to leave the country, forcing ICE to hunt him down. Kirkpatrick said last month that the police department had no information to suggest Temah was in the country illegally during his hiring process. “There was nothing in the [personnel] packet that would have given us reason to believe that this person did not have legal status,” she said. “There is some question that may have developed later.” Temah applied to become an officer in June 2025, according to Fox News. He also had a valid driver’s license and Social Security number, and passed the E-Verify check, which ensures workers are in the country legally and eligible to work. Kirkpatrick said they learned of his deportation order on Dec. 5, which was after he applied for the role with the department. “The order of removal occurred after we had already hired him,” she said. She said that the NOPD had conducted standard criminal background checks, including a search through the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database, and found no criminal history. Temah’s case isn’t the first involving ICE arresting an illegal immigrant cop. In October, federal authorities nabbed Radule Bojovic, an illegal immigrant from Montenegro, who was working as a police officer for the Hanover Police Department in Illinois. Bojovic overstayed a tourist visa that required him to leave the United States on March 31, 2015, the Department of Homeland Security said at the time of his arrest. A judge later granted Bojovic a $2,500 immigration bond and he has since returned to work with the Hanover Police Department. The department hired Bojovic in January 2025 since he had a federal work permit and passed all background checks, they previously said.

Don Lemon Kicks Off Post-Arrest Press Tour With Jimmy Kimmel Interview

Ousted CNN anchor Don Lemon embarked on a post-arrest press tour of sorts, joining late night host Jimmy Kimmel to complain about President Donald Trump’s administration and the arrest he claimed was proof of a campaign of “intimidation.” Lemon joined Kimmel on Monday evening, and the ABC host outdid himself in his efforts to help Lemon paint himself as the victim in a grand scheme — orchestrated by President Trump’s Justice Department, of course — designed to “intimidate” Lemon and others like him into silence. Kimmel opened the segment by first skipping over the video that appears to show Lemon discussing plans with protest organizers prior to entering the church and then repeatedly referring to Lemon as a “journalist” who just happened to be there to record whatever transpired. Lemon repeated the same as if to reassure the audience that he was, in fact, acting solely as a journalist. “I’m not a protester,” he insisted. WATCH: Jimmy Kimmel tries justifying Don Lemon storming a church because he’s a “journalist” and not a protester. Barging into a church and disrupting service isn’t journalism, Jimmy. It’s a blatant violation of federal law.pic.twitter.com/uUKkUKXGNJ — MRC NewsBusters (@newsbusters) February 3, 2026 The pair followed that by suggesting that the Justice Department had essentially crowd-sourced the decision to arrest Lemon, taking their cues from right-leaning social media accounts rather than the evidence — and complained that Lemon had been arrested without being offered the chance to quietly surrender himself to law enforcement. They immediately shifted focus to the judges who’d declined to sign off on a warrant to arrest Lemon, but ignored the fact that a grand jury had found probable cause to indict him, and at least one of the judges had agreed with their assessment. Lemon went on to muddy the waters around the grand jury indictment by suggesting that prosecutors could write “whatever they want” in an indictment and would never face repercussions if it was not true. WATCH: Jimmy Kimmel and Don Lemon mischaracterize both the appellate process and the grand jury. Not once do you hear an acknowledgement that the grand jury found probable cause. pic.twitter.com/z5uvDEiCWN — Jorge Bonilla (@BonillaJL) February 3, 2026 Lemon said in the days leading up to his arrest, he believed the Trump administration would “go around” a judge or possibly even “retrofit” laws in an effort to get him, declaring afterward that he was not concerned with the possibility that he could land behind bars, and saying that he planned to be even more outspoken in the days to come. President Donald Trump, who was asked about the situation while aboard Air Force One over the weekend, made it clear that he did not like Lemon, but said that he was unaware of plans to have him arrested before they were carried out.

New Super Bowl Ad Rewrites the Ending of Iconic 90s Flick

When Jurassic Park premiered in 1993, we were both terrified and mesmerized by the idea of bringing dinosaurs back to life. The movie spawned an extremely successful franchise that now includes six films, toys, clothing, and endless licensing. This year, Xfinity decided to partner with the Jurassic folks for a Super Bowl commercial that will give you all those 1990s feels. The ad brings back original Jurassic Park stars Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum. While it’s been more than 30 years, you’d never know by the way the trio looks, or their onscreen chemistry. The “Jurassic Park” Spot Has All the Familiar Elements Xfinity starts the spot with Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum sitting in a dark car trying to get into Jurassic Park. Of course, there’s a complication, and we see footage from the original movie and Samuel L. Jackson explaining he can’t get Jurassic Park back online. Luckily, Xfinity saves the day. We then see a relieved Laura Dern say, “Guys, that could have been bad.” Instead of the dinosaurs escaping, Xfinity kept them secure and Jurassic Park a sweet little place to visit. It’s a very clever spot and an ode to those who love to wonder what could have happened. People loved the spot for everything it is. “Another great example of AI done right in service to the creative. Hence all the positive reactions and no ‘slop’ comments,” someone shared on X. “no way they brought the OG crew back thats epic as hell,” another fan shared. “This is the Jurassic Park sequel we actually wanted Sam, Laura & Jeff looking 1993 fresh while the new movies keep aging like milk. Xfinity just won the Super Bowl ads early,” a fan declared. We love nostalgia, and Xfinity hit the nail on the head. Nice work. This story’s featured image is by Murray Close/Getty Images.
