No one knows the exact number of private jets that descended‚ as though out of the clouds of a New Olympus‚ onto the tarmacs of Davos‚ Switzerland‚ earlier this month. We do know that 3‚000 people‚ including heads of state and representatives from the administrative states of Europe‚ the Americas‚ Asia‚ the Middle East‚ and Africa‚ combined with international bankers and transnational corporate heads to help determine for themselves the fate of Earth’s 8 billion inhabitants. The ideas that emerge from the World Economic Forum‚ whatever they might be‚ generally seep into administrative agencies of nations like our own and form policies that erupt into a vast number of rules that have the effective power of laws. These “rules” are enforced by the same agencies‚ without the benefit of an independent judicial review to determine if they align with our highest law‚ the U.S. Constitution. “Davos law” will tax every product produced in America‚ while the attendees of Davos and their administrative state collaborators prosper. “Davos law” is the inverse of our constitutional law. It descends from the top down. Our Constitution was designed in no small part to establish the inverse of the historically typical form of tyrannical government. The Constitution of 1787 rejected top-down dictates. The framers devised a means of governance in which power flowed up from the people‚ through the people’s assemblies‚ to make law. In America‚ the people are supposed to be the sovereign‚ not the bureaucracy. The framers established that the people’s representatives in Congress would be the “fountain of all original authority.” Per Article I‚ Section 1 of our Constitution: “All legislative powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress … which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives.” That authority cannot be delegated‚ and for good reason. The persons who write the laws governing the people must be within the people’s reach of redress and recall through regular elections‚ or the people are no longer the sovereign. Period. Whoever determines the “rules” that emerge from Davos are not our representatives. They are a composition of lobbyists and administrative agency heads whom you’ve never heard of or voted for and have no means of holding to account. You will know you have broken “their” “rules” only when agencies like the EPA‚ the IRS‚ or the FBI break down your door. There was a lot of chatter at Davos about European bank mergers being aided by cross-national regulations (just like our rules‚ but in Europe) and there was talk about inflationary pressures from the rise in oil prices. But the main focus of this year’s WEF was climate change. In the United States‚ these Davos ideas become part of the “Green New Deal‚” which none but the most fanatical socialist likes and Congress never passed. This policy exists to address an “emergency” that more than 1‚800 noted international scientists say does not exist. But the bureaucratic machinery will move forward inexorably‚ with higher taxes and higher consumer prices coming for everyone based on a dubious “crisis.” Some businesses will be regulated and fined out of existence. Millions of people will lose their jobs. Others will gain a financial windfall from government “investments‚” underwritten by your tax dollars‚ and tax breaks‚ also funded by your taxes. Others still will grow rich thanks to beneficial lending rates from very interested banks who do their government’s will‚ to keep government oversight agencies friendly. Meanwhile‚ every business in America will be told how their manufacturing plants must be built‚ what trucks they must use to distribute products‚ and what goods they may or may not produce‚ down to what office water cooler and coffee machine they are allowed to buy. Meanwhile‚ we‚ the poor multitudes‚ will be told what stove we must buy‚ what car we must drive‚ and what kind of air conditioner we’re allowed to have. There will be a cloud of regulations‚ taxes‚ and unforeseen effects that will consume our economy like a horde of locusts‚ as “Davos law” will tax every product produced in America‚ while the attendees of Davos and their administrative state collaborators prosper. U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres spoke for many of the Davos attendees when he said‚ “We mustn’t allow geopolitical divides to prevent global responses to global challenges‚ like climate change.” In other words‚ you don’t get a vote if they can help it. And be wary of what you say. The globalists in the Democratic Party share some traits with the Olympians of myth: They are practically omniscient with technologies we fund for surveillance. And they are omnipotent with agencies we fund for law enforcement. Ask Donald Trump how a fist of that feels. Beware the Olympians of Davos‚ beware these Joves and their thunderbolts! For these globalists are something more. They are omnivores who‚ with their hunger for power‚ exercise a near-divine ability dedicated to devouring our rights‚ our freedoms‚ and our wealth – down to the last dollar.

A slight majority of respondents‚ which included 62% of moderate voters‚ said they would totally reject Trump in November if he is convicted of a crime. I saw some of these images while scrolling through Twitter‚ and my response was immediate. I did what anyone who has immediate reactions on Twitter is wont to do: I quote-tweeted the announcement and declared the invention satanic. "This will ruin art‚" I continued.Yet OpenAI CEO and former president of the startup accelerator Y Combinator Sam Altman also went on Twitter and flexed DALL-E’s talents even further: a painting inspired by Banksy’s art showing human-computer interaction; a rabbit detective sitting on a park bench in a Victorian setting; an elephant tea party on a grass lawn‚ among other‚ more fantastical images. After my own tweet‚ two hundred techno-optimists flooded my replies. According to them‚ I either don’t understand artificial intelligence‚ or I don’t understand art. It’s simpler than that: the techno-optimists don’t understand people.Defenses of DALL-E range from the cynical “it’s garbage‚ what are you afraid of?” to the more optimistic “you aren’t afraid of cameras‚ are you?” Both of these are‚ of course‚ myopic. The cynics don’t appreciate that DALL-E can only improve from here. They can’t envision a world where it has exponentially more data to work from and prompts that aren’t generated by engineers who want to see things like “an astronaut riding a horse on the moon.” The optimists seem to miss the point that artificial intelligence and cameras aren’t equivalent technological leaps.We’re throttling toward a strange future. Not necessarily a bad one but not one I’m excited for. It’s a future where media has reached a quality stasis. Movies have become big studio blockbusters; television shows are algorithmic slop from Netflix or Hulu. Though smaller-audience‚ independent films still achieve distribution and are sometimes even fervently discussed. The preference for broadly produced‚ mass-audience media creates a bleak atmosphere‚ where finding them on streaming services that aren’t Criterion is the luck of the draw.In the future‚ more human art — art that’s someone’s human expression‚ in a natural‚ emotional sense — might still exist locally. You could argue that’s how it is now‚ with visual art and any "dead" form. There’s interesting theater‚ but it’s tucked away in scenes. Theater has gone the way of film‚ with big dramas like "Hamilton" and "Dear Evan Hansen" crowding out Off-Broadway and local productions. There is something wonderful about the fact that the artists we know aren’t the most talented people ever to have existed; they’re just the ones blessed enough to be remembered by history.In this future‚ human art could be closer to folk art‚ driven by idiosyncrasy and singular passion. You don’t need to do it this way; you do it this way because you’re called to. It’s not something you have in common with anyone on the street. You need to seek out people like you.We’re most certainly already in that future’s orbit. I couldn’t imagine a world where it could get any worse. DALL-E is symbolic of that.A well-intentioned tech bro reached out to me and reminded me that DALL-E can only work from what’s already been created‚ so there’s always more room for human innovation. We don’t know what we don’t know. He didn’t like my response: we’ve had mixed results with that so far.We can see this by the effect the internet has had on photography. More photographs are now taken yearly than at any other point in the camera’s history. And yet‚ even in the halcyon days of Facebook photo albums‚ which came long after digitization‚ it felt like people cared more about photography than they do now. It’s too easy to take a photo now. The photo is as meaningless and ephemeral as a text message.I long for a smaller world. It doesn’t matter if you’re unexceptional globally if you’re remarkable locally. It’s not about my own potential — it’s about anyone’s potential.The human element can't be substituted by a machine I am one of those who believe there were likely many people with his potential and talent — whose paintings were just as worthy of being known‚ perhaps more worthy. What’s human about art isn’t only located in a single person’s perception. Anyone can do it‚ yet only one person does either because of luck‚ follow-through‚ or whatever else.On some level‚ I recognize this is terrible. It’s not fair.As an artist myself — one without an impressive network or a lot of money or any particular handicap that propels me ahead — I should share that dream of a world that’s more democratized. We should all have access to everything all the time.But that diminishes the work’s value. It diminishes art’s value. There is such a thing as too much.I think of my grandmother‚ who hasn’t traveled the world‚ hasn’t eaten at every restaurant under the sun‚ and hasn’t seen everything a person can see. What does that mean for her? Did she “miss out” on a whole life? Or is her ocean the most beautiful if only because it’s the only ocean she’s ever known?I don’t mean to do nothing‚ to see nothing. I mean‚ there is value in seeing less. There is value in some things just being "luck of the draw."There is something wonderful about the fact that the artists we know aren’t the most talented people ever to have existed; they’re just the ones blessed enough to be remembered by history. With that comes collateral damage‚ but the loss has some dignity.The alternative is that nobody is remembered.That art is just momentary‚ hyper-personal‚ hyper-local. Another hobby condemned to a niche: only for the people who seek it out. But if history has taught us anything‚ they won’t.
