Red Dwarfs Are Too Dim To Generate Complex Life

New research shows that complex life is unlikely to ever exist around cool, dim red dwarfs. About 33% of the Milky Way's stars are late M dwarfs, which are the smallest, coolest stars, and are the easiest stars to detect Earth-like planets around. The stars aren't bright enough for photosynthetic organisms to create a Great Oxygenation Event, which led to complex animal life here on Earth.

Lainey Wilson Says Her Fiancé, Duck Hodges, Has Asked Her If Their Wedding Is Actually Happening: “I’ve Got A Lot To Do”

It’s going to be a gorgeous wedding… when it finally happens. Lainey Wilson got her now-fiancé Devlin “Duck” Hodges, and she shared some gorgeous photos of the day on Instagram when it happened back in February of 2025: View this post on Instagram Duck was a four-year starter at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama before being signed as an undrafted free agent by the Steelers in 2019. He was named the starter during the 2019 season when Mason Rudolph went down with an injury, going 3-3 as a starting quarterback before being waived by the Steelers and signed to the practice squad prior to the 2020 season. They dated for about four years  before getting engaged, and during a party celebrating her radio hit “4X4XU,” Lainey previously shared details about the proposal that happened at the stunning George Jones estate the week after the Super Bowl. She talked some last year about how she really hadn’t planned that much because of her busy schedule, though she did say at the CMA Awards that the wedding was happening in 2026… but it sounds like there’s still a ways to go. Lainey celebrated her 9th career number one song at country radio this week with a party for “Somewhere Over Laredo,” which was included on the deluxe edition of her 2024 fifth studio album, Whirlwind. Lainey co-wrote it with her frequent collaborators Trannie Anderson, and Dallas Wilson, and Harold Arlen and Yip Harburg also received writing credits as the song interpolates the melody of “Over the Rainbow”, which was of course originally written for the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz and performed by Judy Garland. And during the question and answer portion of the event, Lainey was of course asked about wedding plans, and she joked that Duck asked her if the wedding was still on because they still haven’t made much progress: “I’ve got a lot to do… I’ve got a lot to do, I will tell you that. Duck’s like, ‘Are we really getting married?’ I’m like, ‘We are.’ I said, ‘I do, I did, I done, we’re doing it.’ But it’s going good. It’s going to happen, but we don’t have all the details yet. I’m starting to think about it more now, because honestly, with the tour and everything last year, and also with the holidays this year… we played on Thanksgiving day for the Macy’s parade, we were with Snoop Dogg on Christmas Dy, and then we had the Nashville Bash here for New Year’s Eve.” She was on the road for  most of the year, and obviously was very busy during the holidays, so she’s been enjoying some downtime now in January and says she’s been working on her Pinterest board: “Now I kind of feel like, this is like my holiday, down time. And so, I’ve spent a little time on Pinterest. I’m making me a little board.” Personally, I can’t wait to see what she wears, and I’m sure she’ll have a great time helping her plan in between her busy schedule: @adisonhaager Lainey Wilson talks wedding planning! #laineywillson #weddingdress #weddingplanning #countrymusic @Lainey Wilson ♬ Somewhere Over Laredo – Lainey Wilson Lainey Wilson 2025 Tour Dates: February 6—Auckland, New Zealand—Spark Arena* February 8—Christchurch, New Zealand—Wolfbrook Arena* February 11—Brisbane, Australia—Brisbane Entertainment Centre* February 12—Brisbane, Australia—Brisbane Entertainment Centre* February 14—Newcastle, Australia—Howlin’ Country* February 16—Sydney, Australia—Qudos Bank Arena* February 19—Melbourne, Australia—Rod Laver Arena* February 20—Melbourne, Australia—Rod Laver Arena* February 22—Adelaide, Australia—Adelaide Entertainment Centre Arena* February 26—Perth, Australia—RAC Center* March 20—Thackerville, OK—WinStar World Casino & Resort March 21—Thackerville, OK—WinStar World Casino & Resort April 10—Florence, AZ—Country Thunder Arizona April 11—Laughlin, NV—Laughlin Event Center April 25—Indio, CA—Stagecoach Festival 2026 July 10—Chicago, IL—Windy City Smokeout August 6—Detroit Lakes, MN—WE Fest August 7—Oshkosh, WI—Xroads41 August 9—Canton, OH—Concert for Legends August 12—Sturgis, SD—The Sturgis Buffalo Chip August 15—Springfield, IL—Illinois State Fair * with special guests Flatland Cavalry and Kaitlin Butts “Somewhere Over Laredo” The post Lainey Wilson Says Her Fiancé, Duck Hodges, Has Asked Her If Their Wedding Is Actually Happening: “I’ve Got A Lot To Do” first appeared on Whiskey Riff.

Senate Blocks War Powers Resolution on Venezuela

Senate Blocks War Powers Resolution on Venezuela

The Senate on Wednesday voted 51–50 to block a war powers resolution sponsored by Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) and Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) that would have restricted President Trump’s ability to conduct further military action against Venezuela. Kaine and Paul’s resolution was scheduled for a debate Wednesday, but  Republicans introduced a motion to dismiss it on procedural grounds, preventing a final vote on the war powers amendment itself. Vice President J.D. Vance cast the tie-breaking vote in favor of that motion. Sens. Josh Hawley (R-MO) and Todd Young (R-IN)—who previously joined Democrats and three other Republicans last week in voting to advance the resolution—ultimately changed their positions ahead of Wednesday’s vote. On Tuesday night, Secretary of State Marco Rubio sent a letter to Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chair Jim Risch (R-ID) stating that there are currently “no U.S. Armed Forces in Venezuela.” Rubio wrote that if U.S. forces were to be introduced into hostilities, they would be deployed “consistent with the Constitution” and reported to Congress under the War Powers Resolution. Risch cited the letter, arguing the War Powers Act did not apply because no U.S. forces are currently in Venezuela. Rubio would not say if U.S. military action against Venezuela had ended.
