'Epitome of corruption': RFK Jr.'s campaign accuses Nevada of 'inventing' signature rules‚ threatens lawsuit

Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s campaign is threatening to sue Nevada‚ claiming its secretary of state‚ Democrat Francisco Aguilar‚ has concocted new signature rules to prevent the independent presidential candidate from appearing on the state's ballot.A Monday press release from Kennedy's campaign accused the Democratic National Committee of trying to "invalidate" the presidential run‚ claiming that the collected signatures could not be used because Kennedy did not name a vice president."Just one week after Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced he had collected all of the signatures needed to get on the ballot in Nevada‚ it was reported the DNC had hired an entire team devoted to keeping him off the ballot across the country‚" it read.According to the campaign‚ Aguilar is "making a desperate attempt to invalidate the campaign's signatures in the state."The New York Post reported that since 1993‚ Nevada law has required independent candidates to select a vice president before collecting signatures for ballot access. Kennedy could be forced to start from scratch‚ collecting more than 10‚000 signatures.Kennedy campaign ballot access attorney Paul Rossi called the move "the epitome of corruption.""After successfully collecting all of the signatures we need in Nevada‚ the DNC Goon Squad and their lackeys in the Nevada Secretary of State's office are outright inventing a new requirement for the petition with zero legal basis. The Nevada statute does not require the VP on the petition. The petition does not even have a field for a VP on it. The state confirmed that the petition does not require a VP in writing on Nov. 14. The state approved our petition without a VP on it in writing on Jan. 9‚" Rossi explained."This assault on the democratic rights of millions of Americans in Nevada‚ and their freedom to vote for an independent candidate‚ embodies the corruption and depravity that has come to characterize the Democratic Party‚" he added.Rossi accused the DNC of attempting to rig the election against Kennedy as it did in the 2016 primary election against Bernie Sanders."This is the party that canceled its own primary elections in multiple states this year and decreed Biden the winner without a vote‚" Rossi continued. "The DNC is spending millions of dollars in a frantic attempt to keep Kennedy off the ballot because they cannot defeat us in a fair election. They cannot face us in a contest of ideas. These are the death throes of a party that once stood for working people but has long since abandoned them to Wall Street‚ Big Pharma‚ Big Tech‚ and the endless war machine. The Democratic Party is the biggest threat to democracy in this country."The campaign's press release linked to an email exchange with the Nevada Secretary of State's Office. When asked whether the vice presidential candidate must be listed on the petition forms‚ an employee responded‚ "No."The office acknowledged that the employee provided incorrect information to the Kennedy campaign‚ CBS News reported. In a statement to the news outlet‚ the secretary of state's office said‚ "Earlier today it was brought to the attention of our office that a Secretary of State employee had provided inaccurate guidance to an independent presidential campaign. This was an error‚ and will be handled appropriately. In no way was the initial error or subsequent statutory guidance made with intent to benefit or harm any political party or candidate for office.""When a government agency communicates with a member of the public and gives an unclear or incorrect answer to a question‚ Nevada courts have been clear that the agency is not permitted to honor the employee's statements if following those statement[s] would be in conflict with the law‚" the statement added. The Kennedy campaign called for the dispute with the Nevada secretary of state to be settled by a federal judge. Kennedy plans to announce his running mate in Oakland‚ California‚ on Tuesday. Media outlets report that he intends to designate attorney and entrepreneur Nicole Shanahan.Like Blaze News? What 'Dune' teaches us about human achievement and the dangers of AI

What 'Dune' teaches us about human achievement and the dangers of AI

One of the superb concepts of "Dune" that didn’t make it into the movie was the Butlerian Jihad. This is not the jihad that Paul commences‚ but rather an event long in the past that had drastic implications for the universe of Dune. In short‚ the Butlerian Jihad was a war on AI and thinking machines (computers). The jihad was incited by a machine decreeing an abortion‚ and that was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Humanity was already on the verge of being replaced‚ but when machines were beginning to determine who lived and died‚ mankind was losing its sovereignty as well. This crusade against thinking technology strikes at looming questions that grow bigger in our lives by the day. We outsource our energy and capabilities to a tool whenever we use technology. Typically‚ this is well and good. An axe is far more efficient at splitting wood than attempting to do so with one’s hands‚ and this frees up a person to spend his energies elsewhere. But as technology advances‚ we perpetually outsource ourselves to the devices around us. When we create a car‚ we use a device to substitute our legs. Again‚ this is good‚ as it allows far more efficient travel. But what happens when technology is entirely substituting the human individual? Now‚ I am not necessarily referring to the AGI‚ but what happens to vast chunks of the population when a machine can do everything they can but better? What happens when we have created tools that have abolished the need for men? We made tools to serve us‚ but now they have replaced us. Is that a good thing? Can technology advance too far? Can we even stop technology from advancing? Huge numbers of people can no longer effectively live without modern transportation. Can we return? Should we return?"Dune" presents us with a theoretical world where technological progression has been halted. And while it’s far from a perfect world‚ I think it’s a better‚ wiser one than we have now. Technology is not necessarily good because it is advanced. It needs to justify itself. I think we need to adopt an attitude of skepticism‚ certainly given the current state of the modern world. We may be in a better material position‚ but with skyrocketing rates of mental illness‚ drug abuse‚ and suicide‚ something has clearly gone wrong somewhere. And I don’t think it’s terrible to refrain from technology that makes your life easier at the cost of your competence. You’ll never be a great artist if you rely on inputting prompts into an AI generator‚ and you’ll never be a talented writer if you exclusively use ChatGPT. Those skills have to be developed and refined the hard way. Otherwise‚ you’re just like everyone else using AI generators and ChatGPT. In “Dune‚” this type of person is called a mentat. This individual is a social adaptation to the lack of computers and advanced algorithmic calculators. Much like a savant‚ mentats can perform almost impossibly complex computations in their heads in only a few seconds. Screenshot from Youtube Now‚ that power is probably infeasible for us‚ but the concept is ever-present in our lives. If you want to be physically fit‚ you have to actually exercise those muscles. Refraining from technology that substitutes for your muscles is one method of gaining strength. And with strength‚ you gain a little control as well. Now‚ you are not relying on devices that break down or malfunction. It’s all on you. That principle extends to nearly every facet of life. With careful restraint‚ you can develop within yourself all that unrealized potential you are wasting away. The human being was not made to be at rest. Human beings were made to do work‚ and it is only through work that a person becomes truly remarkable. However‚ the most important lesson of the Butlerian Jihad is that it presents a world where humanity has regained control of itself. We often think our lives are insignificant specks in the grand scheme. After all‚ what can one man do against the march of progress? If you have problems with where the world is heading‚ how could you fix things‚ especially when you are one among billions? But "Dune" presents a more hopeful outlook. We can take back control in our lives. We can say no to our desires and appetites to build ourselves up. We can say no to the march of the world. And I think that is an inspiring thought.

NYPD deploys 800 more cops to subway to crack down on fare evasions: ‘Key component to our crime-reduction strategy’

The New York Police Department announced Monday plans to deploy another 800 uniformed and undercover officers to the city’s subway system to crack down on fare evasions‚ the New York Post reported.NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell stated during a press conference that the department will increase its presence at multiple subway stations over the next five days to prevent fare-beaters in a five-day initiative called “Operation Fare Play.” He claimed the effort will help curb the uptick in violent crimes. Chell would not reveal which substations the officers would be stationed at but noted that the locations would be selected based on crime levels‚ Metropolitan Transportation Authority statistics‚ and community complaints‚ the Post reported.According to NYPD Transit Chief Michael Kemper‚ the MTA and the community feel “blatant fare evasion at the turnstiles” is a “primary” and ongoing issue.“Our riders should not be subjected to open acts of lawlessness anywhere in our subway system‚ and that tone of law and order must start at the fare gates‚” Kemper said. “Don’t do it. Don’t jump‚ don’t crawl‚ don’t come through the gate. Make the right decision.”Chell noted‚ “This is not a one-week deal.”“We’re gonna do it time and time again. We’re not giving the locations ’cause we don’t want people to know‚” he stated. “What we want them to know is‚ ‘Don’t think you can come down here and get a free ride and bring your weapons.”“There’s no more freebies anymore. You talk about weapons coming down? This is where it stops‚” Chell stated. So far this year‚ the NYPD has issued 28‚000 summonses for fare evasion and 1‚700 have been arrested‚ Kemper reported. Additionally‚ 20 subway riders were caught with firearms. Eleven of the guns were discovered when police stopped individuals for fare-beating.Kemper believes the operation will be effective at “correcting behavior and keeping the subway system safe and our riders ultimately safe.”“Let me be clear: Fare evasion enforcement and turnstile presence is a key component to our crime-reduction strategy. We do that every day. Every day of the year. This is not something new. This week we’re stepping it up‚” he added.MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber stated‚ “We’re thrilled by the commitment to transit safety demonstrated again and again by Mayor (Eric) Adams and the NYPD.”A recent Post report found an overall drop in subway crime but an uptick in violent attacks that have caused serious injury. There were 373 felony assaults in 2019‚ and that number jumped to 570 last year.Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Illegal alien allegedly killed Michigan woman during drunken carjacking‚ left her body on busy interstate: Report

A man who should not even be in the United States brutally shot and killed a Michigan woman during a drunken carjacking and then left her body on a busy interstate‚ new reports indicate. At around 11:40 p.m. on Friday‚ the lifeless body of 25-year-old Ruby Garcia was discovered on southbound U.S. 131 and Leonard Street in Grand Rapids‚ Michigan. She had been shot multiple times.Police quickly arrested a suspect in this case: 25-year-old Brandon Ortiz-Vite. According to an exclusive report from the Midwesterner‚ Ortiz-Vite is an illegal immigrant. Michigan State Police confirmed that the suspect is in custody but did not release any details about him. Though law enforcement may be tight-lipped about Ortiz-Vite's immigration status‚ Mavi Garcia‚ the victim's sister‚ insists he is in America illegally. "He is currently in custody‚ that’s all we know as of right now‚ and he is/was here illegally‚" Mavi told the Midwesterner. A Facebook post from Mavi alleges that Ortiz-Vite is from "durango and puebla" in Mexico‚ though how she may have ascertained this information is unclear.Mavi Garcia declined to comment on whether the suspect and victim knew each other. "I prefer not to give out information on their relationship." Ortiz-Vite has been charged with homicide/open murder‚ carjacking‚ felony firearm‚ illegally carrying a concealed weapon‚ operating while intoxicated‚ and driving on a suspended or revoked license‚ the New York Post reported. As of noon Tuesday‚ jail records claim he has at least six charges against him but list only the OWI and driving on a suspended or revoked license. A disclaimer on Ortiz-Vite's booking information notes: "Not all inmate information is available to view‚ until further notice."Mavi claimed that her sister loved to travel‚ enjoyed her job at a local greenhouse‚ and was a doting aunt to their nieces and nephews. "She would brighten up the room with her beautiful smile and laugh‚" Mavi said."She will be remembered as being full of life and laughter‚ those who were around her would know she was silly and made everyone laugh‚" she continued."I just wish she never went out that night."Like Blaze News? Diablo 4 meets Darkest Dungeon in new Steam horror RPG game‚ out now

Sometimes‚ in order to appreciate a game‚ you have to get past its name. This is most definitely the case with the recently launched BattleJuice Alchemist‚ which follows a path laid out by games with titles like‚ say‚ Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice‚ Triangle Strategy‚ or Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Still‚ BattleJuice Alchemist overcomes the hurdle its name puts in front of it with only a quick look at its attention grabbing‚ smoothie style blend of Diablo 4's combat and exploration with a cartoony visual style and tone that calls both Darkest Dungeon and Borderlands 3 to mind.
