Presumed Extinct: World’s Smallest Otter Found in Busy Nepal River After 186 Years without a Sighting

Though officially classified as vulnerable, no credible sighting of the Asian short-clawed otter, the smallest species of its kind, has been made in almost 200 years. So when forestry officials in Nepal found an injured, juvenile otter at the confluence of two major rivers last November, they never imagined that their actions might determine the […] The post Presumed Extinct: World’s Smallest Otter Found in Busy Nepal River After 186 Years without a Sighting appeared first on Good News Network.

House of the Dragon Finds Roddy the Ruin, Ormond Hightower & Ser Torrhen Manderly

News House of the Dragon House of the Dragon Finds Roddy the Ruin, Ormond Hightower & Ser Torrhen Manderly By Vanessa Armstrong | Published on March 31, 2025 From Left to Right: Tommy Flanagan (Courtesy of Simon Murphy), James Norton (Nikola Predovic/Cuba Pictures/CPL Godman/AMC), Dan Fogler (Courtesy of HBO) Comment 0 Share New Share From Left to Right: Tommy Flanagan (Courtesy of Simon Murphy), James Norton (Nikola Predovic/Cuba Pictures/CPL Godman/AMC), Dan Fogler (Courtesy of HBO) Filming for the third season of HBO’s House of the Dragon is underway, and we’re getting news about some new actors we’ll see in the land, seas, and skies of Westeros in the upcoming episodes. We found out in late January that James Norton (The Nevers, Happy Valley, pictured above in center in McMafia) joined the show as Ormond Hightower, whose official character description (per Variety) reads as “Otto’s (Rhys Ifans) nephew, Alicent (Olivia Cooke) and Gwayne’s (Freddie Fox) cousin, and the Lord of Oldtown. He is presently leading the Hightower host in a march on King’s Landing to support his house against Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy).” Today, Warner Bros. Discovery shared that Tommy Flanagan (Sons of Anarchy, Gladiator) and Dan Fogler (A Complete Unknown, The Walking Dead) join Norton as newbies on the call sheet. Flanagan is playing Ser Roderick Dustin, aka Roddy the Ruin. Those who’ve read Martin’s Fire & Blood know that Roddy faces off against Ormond Hightower in a major altercation, which strongly suggests Flanagan and Norton will at least act against each other on a bloody battlefield at some point. “I don’t want to say much because I think this is one of those truly memorable Game of Thrones characters, and I’m very excited to bring him into the fold,” House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal told Entertainment Weekly. “But he is a fixture in Fire & Blood, and I think he’s one of those true fan favorites. I’m very, very proud of the role that we’ve written.” Fogler will be playing Ser Torrhen Manderly, who Martin describes in Fire & Blood as brusque and gluttonous, but fair. No news yet when we’ll see season three of House of the Dragon streaming on Max. House to Take Up SAVE Act Voter ID Bill

The House of Representatives is set to vote on election-integrity legislation, the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, on Thursday. The SAVE Act would bar states from registering people to vote in federal elections unless they provide documentary proof of American citizenship. To that end, it would also make it a crime to register an individual who did not provide proof that they are a U.S. citizen. The legislation, sponsored by Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, further mandates that states remove noncitizens from their official lists of eligible voters. The bill passed the House of Representatives during the previous Congress, but was prevented from becoming law by Senate Democrats.  “Let me be clear: American elections are for Americans only. Rep. Roy’s commonsense SAVE Act will only be controversial for Democrats who are working for illegal immigrants instead of the American people,” Rep. Tom Emmer, R-Minn., the House majority whip and a cosponsor of the bill, told The Daily Signal. “Free and fair elections are the cornerstone of our democracy, which is why protecting them at a federal level from foreign influence is essential to our nation’s sovereignty and will ensure America flourishes for decades to come,” Rep. August Pfluger, R-Texas, said in a statement.  “I encourage my Democrat colleagues to support the SAVE Act, because every American should want to safeguard our elections and ensure only citizens are able to vote in and influence them. Requiring proof of citizenship to vote is particularly important because it is essential to safeguarding the integrity of our electoral system. You have to show an ID to open a bank account, get on a plane, and drive a car. Why would the standard be any less to vote for our elected officials?” Pfluger said.  “Because we have what is, in essence, an ‘honor’ system for voter registration, it is easy for aliens to register and vote even though it violates state and federal laws,” Hans von Spakovsky, manager of the Election Law Reform Initiative and senior legal fellow at the Meese Center for Legal and Judicial Studies at The Heritage Foundation. “Because we have what is, in essence, an ‘honor’ system for voter registration, it is easy for aliens to register and vote even though it violates state and federal laws.” Von Spakovsky believes that preemptive prevention of voter fraud is the only way to ensure secure elections.  “The only way to prevent this disenfranchisement is by requiring proof of citizenship when individuals are registering to vote to prevent such illegal votes from being cast in the first place,” he explained.  “Registering to vote provides a voter registration card that can then be used to obtain other forms of identification, and it is one of the items that can be used to establish your identity for federal employment requirements under immigration law. The evidence is there that aliens are registered and voting all over the country,” he added.  Currently, 14 states and the District of Columbia do not require voter ID for elections, and California passed a law in 2024 that prohibits local governments from requiring voter identification at polls in the state. New York City on March 20 had a 2022 law permitting noncitizens to vote in local elections struck down as unconstitutional by the state’s highest court. The law would have applied to 800,000 noncitizens in the city. Von Spakovsky maintains that it’s not even guaranteed that uncovered cases of voter fraud will be prosecuted.  “[T]he chances of being caught are slim to none, because election officials do not verify citizenship. Moreover, even when caught, many prosecutors simply ignore such violations and do not prosecute them,” he said. Illegal voting also has broad implications for other forms of fraud, according to Von Spakovsky.  “Registering to vote provides a voter registration card that can then be used to obtain other forms of identification, and it is one of the items that can be used to establish your identity for federal employment requirements under immigration law. The evidence is there that aliens are registered and voting all over the country,” the senior legal fellow noted.  Roy’s bill is cosponsored by 96 fellow House Republicans. It comes as Americans express concern over election security and integrity. According to Pew Research polling from October of last year, only 35% of Trump supporters are confident that noncitizens will be prevented from voting. “Secure elections are a cornerstone in maintaining any democracy. The fact of the matter is, certain states are exploiting loopholes to allow noncitizen voting in our federal elections,” Rep. Andy Harris, R-Md., told The Daily Signal. “The SAVE Act will close these loopholes and ensure that only American citizens are voting in American elections. I am a proud co-sponsor of this bill,” the Maryland congressman concluded. The post House to Take Up SAVE Act Voter ID Bill appeared first on The Daily Signal.

Google Enters the Age Check Arena as Australia Flirts with Digital ID

If you're tired of censorship and dystopian threats against civil liberties, subscribe to Reclaim The Net. Australia’s Age Assurance Technology Trial continues to evolve, now boasting 51 participating organizations, including newly added tech heavyweight Google. The initiative, intended to explore digital tools for verifying users’ ages online, has closed its doors to additional participants — aside from a select few still in discussions — while releasing updates on testing procedures and regulatory compliance. However, beyond the surface-level goal of child safety, this national experiment raises deeper concerns about digital privacy and the future of anonymity online. Many of the technologies being tested — ranging from biometric scans to document-based identity checks — carry the potential to link internet activity directly to a verified individual. Under the guise of verifying age, these systems may quietly normalize a model where every action online is traceable to a real-world identity. This approach undermines the foundational principle of online anonymity. Once digital ID becomes embedded in online services, the infrastructure could easily expand beyond age-restricted content. This could pave the way for broader surveillance, allowing governments or corporations to monitor speech, behavior, and preferences with alarming precision. The risk is that mandatory age checks become a gateway to a far-reaching identification regime that compromises the right to privacy and restricts free expression. Even as the trial organizers highlight their adherence to legal standards—stating that the updated Participation Agreement “extends our commitments to comply with Australian privacy and other relevant laws and regulations to all the participants” — compliance does not necessarily address the broader ethical and societal implications. The expansion of identity-based systems in digital spaces creates a chilling effect, particularly for marginalized voices or individuals engaging in sensitive discourse who rely on anonymity for safety. Canadian Activist “Billboard Chris” Challenges Australian Government Over Censorship of Post Criticizing UN Trans Activist

If you're tired of censorship and dystopian threats against civil liberties, subscribe to Reclaim The Net. A Canadian free speech activist is taking legal action against the Australian government after one of his tweets was blocked from being viewed in the country under orders from Australia’s “eSafety” commission. Chris Elston, better known as “Billboard Chris” for his sandwich-board-style activism in public spaces, is challenging Australia’s censorship order before the Administrative Review Tribunal. The controversy began after Elston shared a Daily Mail UK article titled “Kinky secrets of UN trans expert revealed,” which focused on Teddy Cook, a transgender activist from Australia appointed to a World Health Organization advisory board. Cook filed a complaint with the eSafety commissioner, prompting the agency to demand that X restrict the tweet in Australia. X initially resisted the order but complied after receiving a formal government directive. The legal battle is now being supported by Alliance Defending Freedom International (ADFI). Lois McLatchie Miller of ADFI traveled to Australia ahead of the hearing and posted about the case on X, stating: “I’m in Australia because their government think their people don’t deserve to know and to make their own mind up about toxic gender ideology.” The tweet Australian authorities demand is censored in Australia. Speaking to Fox News Digital, McLatchie Miller described the case as “monumental” for global speech rights. She emphasized the international dimension of the case: “It’s an Australian authority bucking the speech of a Canadian man on an American platform.” She went on to state: “So the Australian authorities have found that because they don’t want Australians to be able to hear a message and discuss a certain topic, they have now reached over to other countries to block that free speech, which is in and of itself fascinating.” She connected the incident to broader concerns about cross-border censorship: “Over the last few weeks, when it comes to foreign governments having very surreal policies which are thought to only impact their citizens and their citizens’ human rights, but also the rights for Americans, rights for Canadians, others around the world.” Meanwhile, platform X is also disputing a substantial financial penalty issued by the Australian government in 2023, after authorities claimed the company failed to provide details on how it addresses exploitation and abuse on the platform. RFK Jr.’s pharma ad ban: TV’s $6.9 billion question

RFK Jr.’s pharma ad ban: TV’s $6.9 billion question

Whether you’re streaming shows on Hulu or turning on cable TV to catch the news, you’re bound to encounter pharmaceutical advertisements that always end with a lengthy list of side effects. Those ads always feature smiling, happy supposed customers oblivious to the side effect voice-over that usually lists “death” as one of issues they may face. However, you’ll only see those ads if you live in the United States or New Zealand, because they’re the only countries that allow pharmaceutical companies to advertise prescription drugs on TV — a practice that the U.S. adopted after FDA rule changes in 1997 and that New Zealand regulates under its Medicines Act. Now, Secretary of Health and Human Services RFK Jr. aims to change that. RFK argues that these commercials fuel overmedication and Big Pharma’s influence. Taking them down could disrupt the $6.9 billion pharma TV ad market — which could also disrupt television itself. “I hate to have broadcast entities lose money,” Jeffy tells Pat Gray and Keith Malinak on “Pat Gray Unleashed.” “They’re gonna have to make up that money somewhere, and then they’ll probably raise your subscription fees and kick employees to the curb,” Malinak says. “I mean, look, that’s why you don’t have critical stories on national news, or any news networks,” he continues, “critical of the pharmaceutical industry or the COVID vax or any kind of issue. It’s because those newscasts are funded almost exclusively through pharmaceutical TV dollars.” Want more from Pat Gray?To enjoy more of Pat's biting analysis and signature wit as he restores common sense to a senseless world, subscribe to BlazeTV — the largest multi-platform network of voices who love America, defend the Constitution, and live the American dream.

Husband, pregnant wife hear alarm late at night. Soon husband opens fire at male who allegedly broke into garage, wife's car.

A husband was with his pregnant wife at their Houston residence around 11 p.m. Friday when they both heard beeping and their alarm sounding, KHOU-TV reported.Police said the 50-year-old homeowner grabbed his handgun and checked things out, the station said.'Just defending what [is] his. The [burglar] should be thankful he wasn’t killed. Next time he may not be so lucky.'When the homeowner got to the garage, he noticed the door had been opened — and then he saw a male inside his wife's car in the driveway, KHOU said, adding that their home is on Kelving Street near the intersection of Kirby Drive and West Holcombe Boulevard. The station, citing police, said the male broke into the home's garage and the wife's car.The male then got out of the car and began moving down the driveway, KHOU said.Police said the homeowner ordered the male to stop, the station reported — but it was dark outside, the male made a quick movement, and that prompted the homeowner to open fire twice, KHOU said. The shots hit the male once in the arm and once in the leg, the station said. The homeowner yelled for his wife to call 911 and get help as he stayed with the male, the station said. The Houston Fire Department quickly arrived and brought the male to an area hospital where he was expected to survive, KHOU said. The station said the male is expected to face burglary charges. The Harris County District Attorney's Office will investigate to determine if any charges will be filed against the homeowner, KHOU noted. How are people reacting?Commenters responding to KHOU's Facebook post about the incident seem decidedly in the homeowner's corner:"He got exactly what he deserved!" one commenter wrote. "Thank you Texas for allowing us to keep our guns!!!""Can't just go into someone's property and do what you want," another user said. "Got to know there would be consequences.""Perfectly justified under the law in Texas," another commenter wrote. "This homeowner better not get charged.""Give the homeowner a reward for stopping crime when police can’t and then give him a parade/honor him with a day of recognition as well," another user suggested."Good work homeowner," another commenter stated."Just defending what [is] his," another user reasoned. "The [burglar] should be thankful he wasn’t killed. Next time he may not be so lucky."Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors, sign up for our newsletters, and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Delta plane nearly collides with Air Force jet mid-flight near DC airport; investigation launched

A Delta Air Lines plane nearly collided with an Air Force jet on Friday near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. The near-collision happened just months after the deadly aircraft crash between an Army helicopter and a passenger plane in Washington, D.C. Delta Flight 2983 departed from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport around 3:15 p.m. on Friday, bound for Minneapolis, Minnesota. The system issued a 'resolution advisory,' directing the pilots to take evasive action. At the same time that the Delta Airbus A319 had taken off from Reagan International, four U.S. Air Force T-38s approached from the opposite direction. The U.S. Air Force T-38s turned north on the east side of the Potomac River as the jets flew directly over the Pentagon and Arlington National Cemetery for a flyover of a funeral, according to FlightRadar24.com.USA Today reported that the Airbus A319 received a cockpit warning known as a Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System. The system issued a “resolution advisory,” directing the pilots to take evasive action. The Federal Aviation Administration stated in a press release: "The Delta aircraft received an onboard alert that another aircraft was nearby. Air traffic controllers issued corrective instructions to both aircraft."Shortly after the near miss, one of the Delta pilots asked Reagan air traffic controllers, "Was there an actual aircraft about 500 feet below us as we came off DCA?" The departure controller responded, "Delta 2983, affirmative."CNN reported that the Air Force T-38 jets were flying past the Delta plane and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport while traveling more than 350 mph at an altitude of 800 feet. The Delta Air Lines plane continued to Minneapolis while the T-38s returned to Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Virginia. The flight had 131 passengers, two pilots, and three flight attendants on board at the time, a Delta spokesperson said.Delta Air Lines confirmed the incident and said its crew responded appropriately. “Nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and people. That’s why the flight crew followed procedures to maneuver the aircraft as instructed,” Delta spokesperson Morgan Durrant stated. The FAA said it is investigating the incident. This near mid-flight crash comes in the wake of the mid-air collision on Jan. 29 between an Army Black Hawk helicopter and an American Airlines plane just south of Reagan National that killed 67 people — the deadliest U.S. aviation disaster since 2001.A recent National Transportation Safety Board preliminary report revealed there were 15,240 “close proximity events” between commercial planes and helicopters near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport between October 2021 and December 2024. BlazeTV host Stu Burguiere's investigation unearthed several eyebrow-raising developments in how airports are using outdated technology, DEI practices that exclude the most qualified would-be air traffic controllers, and severely understaffed air traffic towers.Billionaire Elon Musk shared the documentary on the X social media platform last week.
