Sam Raimi and Roy Lee to Remake Ventriloquist Horror Movie, Magic

News magic Sam Raimi and Roy Lee to Remake Ventriloquist Horror Movie, Magic Magic is fun; we’re dead. By Vanessa Armstrong | Published on September 3, 2025 Screenshot: 20th Century Studios Comment 0 Share New Share Screenshot: 20th Century Studios Have you ever heard of Magic? It’s a 1978 film based on the book by William Goldman that starred Anthony Hopkins as Corky, a magician/ventriloquist whose dummy—a cheeky guy named Fats—starts instigating a mentally unstable Corky to murder people in the Catskills after Corky romantically connects with his high school crush. (Fats, in fact, is a representation of Corky’s id, and not a demonically possessed dummy, if those distinctions are of import to you.) The film is, in a word, bonkers. If you need further proof, the poster for the movie features the top of Fats’ face and the following words: “Abracadabra, I sit on his knee. Presto chango, and now he is me. Hocus pocus, we take her to bed. Magic is fun; we’re dead.” Perhaps surprisingly, the movie has piqued the interest of Evil Dead creator Sam Raimi and Weapons producer Roy Lee. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate is moving forward with a remake, with Lee and Raimi on board as producers. Mark Swift and Damian Shannon, whose previous credits include writing Freddy v. Jason and 2009’s Friday the 13th, will pen the script. The project is still in its early days, though apparently Chris Hammond and Tim Sullivan, two additional producers who have been working with Lionsgate, have been trying to collect the rights to the film for a while. According to THR, Sullivan in particular is “a longtime film devotee; he has been with the remake from its inception and worked for years to bring Goldman’s story back to the screen.” We sadly don’t know who will be reprising Hopkins’ role, what Fats will look like, or who will potentially voice him. One can hope, however, that Corky’s haircut survives the remake process and brings the dome cut back in all its horror. Darcy Pitches Fit Over Legendary Media Executive Still Thinking CNN Is a DISASTER

Former CNN senior media reporter and liberal media janitor Oliver Darcy expressed disgust in his Tuesday night newsletter Status that “one of Warner Bros. Discovery’s most powerful stakeholders” and legendary media boss John Malone has been blasting CNN this week in interviews with CNBC and The New York Times about a new memoir, insisting CNN’s “a left-leaning, anti-Trump news service” run by “progressives.” As a result, he argued, CNN has become “a shadow of what its founder [Ted Turner] had envisioned” even if it has some “great journalists.” For this, Darcy seethed that his “groans” and “swipes” were a reminder “most of the MAGA audience simply cannot be appeased” no matter the number of “moves to soften its posture toward Trump” like “oust[ing] top anchors like Don Lemon and Jim Acosta, put[ting] dishonest MAGA commentators like Scott Jennings across its programming, and, broadly speaking, toned down the punchy style in which it reported during the Jeff Zucker years.” Darcy — the man who melted down over One America News being allowed on YouTube TV and has supported efforts to ban Fox News, Newsmax, and any conservative media outlet from cable packages — claimed Malone and anyone who dares to raise concerns about CNN’s biases are impatient and impossible to please. “[T]he MAGA audience is never going to see [CNN] as a legitimate source of news. Trump’s fans love to complain about these organizations, but have no intention of ever consuming their products. Instead, they view snippets from outlets like CNN through the filter of Fox News and X in which right-wing hosts and personalities unfairly attack mainstream coverage,” they added. Darcy likes to pretend we at NewsBusters don’t exist, but let’s go ahead anyway and call this pants on fire. He even blamed CNN’s cratering ratings for not being the home of the resistance: WBD’s strategy has resulted in a diminished audience. Many of its most loyal viewers, who once relied on the network to report reality plainly, without fear of political repercussions, have tuned out. In other words, the idea that CNN—or any truth-based network—can win over MAGA viewers is pure fiction...[T]he ultimate outcome is predictable: a smaller, less trusted network, abandoned by its existing viewers, and still despised by the crowd it is trying to court. Darcy also found anonymous CNN journalists to remind us how much they hate those who don’t see the world through their deep-seated partisan lens (click “expand”): Suffice to say, the insults have not played well over in Hudson Yards, according to conversations I had with several staffers on Tuesday. “Lord,” one CNN journalist texted me, noting that the network is “not anti-Trump” and does its best to cover politics carefully. “The thinking seems to be: if you question rather than celebrate Trump’s actions, or even simply cover the consequences and costs or try to assess their legality, you are taking an editorial stance,” another CNN’er told me, adding, “We might ask how would Watergate or Iran-Contra play today? As partisan hit jobs or fair journalism?” A third CNN staffer put it even more bluntly: “CNN is not anti-Trump. We report the facts whether it is good or bad for Trump. For example, when CNN criticizes [Robert F. Kennedy Jr.] for promoting dangerous conspiracy theories, that’s not anti-Trump. That’s reporting the facts to our audience. Sometimes there are not two sides to a story. RFK’s junk science on autism is the perfect example. If Malone is going to criticize CNN for being anti-Trump, does he think we should present RFK’s views on autism as rooted in sound science? Should we give both sides to RFK’s conspiracy theories even though there is only one side, in the name of being fair and balanced?” Speaking on his yacht off the coast of Maine, he told Times media reporter Benjamin Mullin that CNN “can’t help themselves” but be liberal partisans (click “expand”): In June, Warner Bros. Discovery announced it would split into two companies, with one owning the HBO Max streaming service and the other its cable channels. One of those channels is CNN, which Mr. Malone reveals in his memoir he considered buying from AT&T in 2020 after receiving a message from Mr. Turner suggesting one last deal. (They decided against it, believing the network might falter financially outside its parent company.) Mr. Malone, who identifies as a libertarian, says in his memoir that CNN is now “a shadow of what its founder had envisioned,” though he adds that it still has “some of the best journalists in America.” One problem with CNN, he said, is that the network’s employees — whom he described as being largely “left of center,” — “express their opinions too much in their news.” He said Mr. Zaslav had been “unable to have any meaningful impact” in fixing what he viewed as the channel’s partisan tilt, a problem he said affected every news network. “They can’t help themselves,” Mr. Malone said. “And so what you’ve got is a left-leaning, anti-Trump news service.” The network’s next plan, he said, will be a paid subscription service that will allow viewers to stream hours of CNN video without a cable subscription. A CNN spokeswoman said in a statement that the network’s chief executive, Mark Thompson, “has made it clear from day one that he believes in a CNN that is fair-minded and biased in favor of the facts rather than any political party or interest.” Malone doubled down Tuesday morning on CNBC’s Squawk Box in response to this question from co-host Joe Kernen: “Do you think CNN has changed to the point where you’d like where you are seeing actual journalism now? Do you see it across mainstream media anywhere?”     “No. And in fact, it’s very difficult,” Malone began, noting his familiarity with cable news and ties to the launches of CNBC and Fox News as well as supporting PBS’s MacNeil-Lehrer NewsHour. Expanding on what he meant in saying no, Malone said he’s “always struggled with the question of — of news” and always insisted on the need for journalists to “just give me the news, the factual news.” He also drove Darcy up a cliff based on his positive view of Fox News and stating “[t]he reality...that journalism schools turn out people who are tend to be reformers” and thus “progressives personally” (click “expand”): When Rupert pitched Fox News, it was going to be that we’re going to have a true news division. That will be just the news. And I guess you would say that’s Bret Baier today. But then we’re going to have essentially entertainment programing focused on news and current events and culture and so on and that was his formula and — and C — CNN decided to stay and try and be just news as opposed to news and comedy and entertainment. My view was that you should have — that it was okay for Fox to do what they did, as long as you labeled opinion as opinion like the newspapers did. You know, you have journalism, you have the facts, and then you have editorial opinions, and then you may have guest editorials. I mean, and you can make it all interesting and entertaining, but what you’re calling factual news, it would be nice to be just factual news. Now, I know how difficult that is. CNN has great journalists. They always have had great journalists. They have a large organization that does the best job of covering breaking news worldwide. That clearly is a big strength for them. The reality is that journalism schools turn out people who are tend to be reformers. They tend to want to fix the world from the journalistic perspective, so they tend to be “progressives” personally and it’s impossible to separate that sort of personal opinion structure from the way they — they cover news, the kind of adjectives that come to their mind when they are reporting a story. Now, I never had much to do with CNN — you know, I was chair of the governance committee at Warner. I stepped off that board this spring and became executive  chairman emeritus, but so that they could keep me tied up and, you know, I could continue to be involved, but — but not be a voting member of the board, even during the period, the three years when I was on the board of the combined company, I had zero to do with the governance of CNN. That was — that was David [Zaslav] and his efforts to bring in leadership, new leadership. To see the relevant CNBC transcript form September 2, click here.

CNN Gives Platform to Dem Conspiracy Theory Trump to Steal Midterms

CNN was seemingly engaged in some stochastic terrorism during Wednesday’s Inside Politics as host Dana Bash gave a platform to and promoted incendiary Democratic Party conspiracy theories claiming President Trump was going to steal the 2026 midterm elections. At no point did she try to poke holes in the idea, instead she praised Democrats for “sounding the alarm” and said Trump’s past claims of election rigging were the only “erroneous” ones. Bash opened the segment by highlighting how Governors Gavin Newsom (D-CA) and JB Pritzker (D-IL) were “increasingly sounding the alarm that a free and fair election may not even happen.” She followed up with these two soundbites of the Governors making unsubstantiated and incendiary accusations: NEWSOM: People actually think this guy is serious about having another election? You think he's joking about 2028? [Transition] I'm not calm and I'm not going to submit myself to niceties. Not when this guy is trying to wreck our God damn country. PRITZKER: He'd like to stop the elections in 2026 or frankly, take control of those elections. He'll just claim that there's some problem with an election, and then he's got troops on the ground that can take control. After introducing her guest commentator Dan Pfeiffer of Pod Save America and the Obama administration, Bash marveled at how outspoken Democrats were with their allegations and bluntly asked him: “[H]ow do we know that there not going to be messed with?” “Yeah. Look, I think we should be very concerned that Donald Trump can mess with these elections,” Pfeiffer backed up the lies.     At no point did Bash admit that Democrats were making their claims ‘without evidence;’ the tag line they often threw onto something Trump would say despite the facts. Urging Democrats to “prepare for the worst” for “when Donald Trump does the worst,” Pfeiffer predicted that Trump would send “ICE agents” to take over polling places: I think a really signature moment that did not get enough attention was when Gavin Newsom held his press conference to announce the California ballot initiative to do redistricting here in California. There were ICE agents outside the press conference. Right? So what is why should we not expect that Donald Trump will do something similar, as Governor Pritzker suggested, at polling places in key Democratic districts or precincts, that he's not going to do everything we can. Instead of asking for evidence, Bash wondered: “So how do you prepare for, in your words, the worst?” Pfeiffer’s predictions grew more unhinged as it became clear that Bash was not going to ask any critical questions. He claimed Trump would use the military against polling places and House Speaker Mike Johnson would get involved: [W]e should be prepared for national deployment of troops. We should be prepared for masked ICE agents outside of polling places, and we should be prepared for shenanigans from Speaker Johnson and the House Republicans when it comes to seating Democratic members in close races, if control of the House is at stake. Ironically, it was Democrats who tried to play such games with seats when they tried steal the seat out from under Congresswoman Miller-Meeks (R-IA). The only criticism Bash offered didn’t question the veracity of the allegations. Instead, she feared that talking about a stolen election would hinder Democratic Party turn out. “The flip side of the coin is that this sounding the alarm could suppress the Democratic vote, saying, why am I going to go vote if it's not going to matter?” she fretted. These incendiary and unsupported allegations were absolutely dangerous to the wellbeing of Trump and Republicans. If another mentally unwell liberal heard them, they could be once again incited to commit acts of violence against people on the right. The transcript is below. Click "expand" to read: CNN’s Inside Politics September 3, 2025 12:36:55 p.m. Eastern DANA BASH: Governors Gavin Newsom and JB Pritzker are two closely watched Democrats who may run for president in 2028. Both are increasingly sounding the alarm that a free and fair election may not even happen. [Cuts to video] GOV. GAVIN NEWSOM (D-CA): People actually think this guy is serious about having another election? You think he's joking about 2028? [Transition] I'm not calm and I'm not going to submit myself to niceties. Not when this guy is trying to wreck our God damn country. GOV. JB PRITZKER (D-IL): He'd like to stop the elections in 2026 or frankly, take control of those elections. He'll just claim that there's some problem with an election, and then he's got troops on the ground that can take control. [Cuts back to live] BASH: Let's talk about all of this with Dan Pfeiffer, a former senior adviser to President Obama, currently a co-host of Pod Save America and author of Message Box on Substack. Thanks for being here, Dan. I want to start with what JB Pritzker said, because this is the thing that I hear most from Democrats, which is just the first election nationally that we're going to see the midterms. And that is how do we know that there not going to be messed with? I mean, it's the kind of thing that we heard on the Republican side, pushed by Donald Trump erroneously going into 2020 and others. But I haven't heard Democrats this concerned talk about the ecosystem and versus the reality that's driving that. DAN PFEIFFER: Yeah. Look, I think we should be very concerned that Donald Trump can mess with these elections. I think a really signature moment that did not get enough attention was when Gavin Newsom held his press conference to announce the California ballot initiative to do redistricting here in California. There were ICE agents outside the press conference. Right? So what is why should we not expect that Donald Trump will do something similar, as Governor Pritzker suggested, at polling places in key Democratic districts or precincts, that he's not going to do everything we can. We already know that he is taking the extraordinary step of trying to have several states redistrict to hold on to power in the House. I think we have to be prepared for everything. And there is a real like there is real concern out there. And I think that both Governor Newsom and Governor Pritzker and a few others are speaking to that. And it's I would rather prepare for the worst and hope for the best than be caught flat footed when Donald Trump does the worst. BASH: So how do you prepare for, in your words, the worst? PFEIFFER: Well, I think the first thing is to call it out. Right? To start talking about it now. There's obviously things that campaigns can be doing in terms of legal strategy. We've seen some courts that have pushed back on Trump's use of troops. So, we should do those things. But make everyone aware. Right? Get people fired up, make people understand that these things are coming so they're not surprised when they happen. Right? So that they know we can have poll watchers. We can have Democrats in attendance to help people understand what's happening. But we should prepare for every eventuality. I don't think Donald Trump is going to cancel the elections. That's not something he can really do. But we should be prepared for national deployment of troops. We should be prepared for masked ICE agents outside of polling places, and we should be prepared for shenanigans from Speaker Johnson and the House Republicans when it comes to seating Democratic members in close races, if control of the House is at stake. BASH: Well, you're saying the Democrats should be fired up. By the way, where'd you get that term? I heard that once. [Laughter] PFEIFFER: We seem fired up, ready to go is an open question. But we’ll see. BASH: Well, that's – So that's where I'm going to go with this, which is just to covering politics for a long time. The flip side of the coin is that this sounding the alarm could suppress the Democratic vote, saying, why am I going to go vote if it's not going to matter? PFEIFFER: I think I've heard that argument before. We've heard that that is one of the things that campaigns have talked about in the past. I've been part of discussions around that. I think we are better off preparing people for what is likely to happen, than to have them show up expecting a normal election, and see these troops. If you can normalize the fact that this may happen. I think it can increase turnout. It can keep people in line, keep people going to the polls. I just really think in this day and age, in this media ecosystem, trying to hide information from people to try to manage their emotions cannot work. So, you should just be brutally honest with them about what may happen and try to help them prepare for how to navigate those situations when they come. (…)

Israeli official appears in court via Zoom following sex crime sting arrest in Nevada

Last month, a high-ranking Israeli government official was arrested and charged with a felony during a sex crime sting operation by Nevada police. Nearly a month after he posted bail, flew back to Israel as scheduled, and failed to appear for his felony arraignment on August 27, Tom Artiom Alexandrovich was scheduled to appear in court via a Zoom link Wednesday. Alexandrovich, who was confirmed to be a senior official of the Israel Cyber Directorate, was arrested and charged with using computer technology to engage in a sexual act with a minor, a felony. The court acknowledged that supervising and enforcing these conditions would be difficult given the 'distance' between the court and Alexandrovich's current whereabouts.Having flown to Israel shortly after posting $10,000 bail on August 7, Alexandrovich was not available to appear before the court in person on August 27, nor did he appear via Zoom. As was clarified on the court docket and during the hearing Wednesday, his bail was posted prior to the probable cause review. Blaze News can confirm that Alexandrovich appeared at the arraignment hearing set for September 3.RELATED: Israeli government official arrested in child sex-crime sting, flees to Israel Photo by RONDA CHURCHILL/AFP via Getty ImagesNoting the seriousness of the charge, Henderson Justice of the Peace Barbara F. Schifalacqua ordered Alexandrovich to avoid contact with minors and prohibited the use of social media or applications for dating or meetups. The court acknowledged potential difficulties in supervising and enforcing these conditions given the "distance" between the court and Alexandrovich's current whereabouts.During the hearing, the defense stated that Alexandrovich submitted to and "passed" a polygraph test when asked if he had ever had sexual contact with any person under the age of 19. The defense also noted that Alexandrovich has been compliant with the court in the almost 30 days that have elapsed since the arrest. An opposition hearing was set for September 24. The reply will be heard on October 1, and the argument, at which Alexandrovich will appear via Zoom once more, was scheduled for October 6. The date of the preliminary hearing will be scheduled during the argument hearing. Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors, sign up for our newsletters, and get stories like this direct to your inbox.
