Ancient manuscript with unique details of Jesus’ childhood discovered

Recently, scientists decided to examine an inconspicuous papyrus that was kept in the Hamburg library. It turned out that this manuscript is an important religious text that tells about the childhood of Jesus of Nazareth. An ancient manuscript found in the Hamburg State and University Library. Karl von Ossietzky, offers a rare glimpse into the childhood of Jesus of Nazareth. Previously, historians relied on a limited number of texts outside the Bible to piece together the details of his life, reports IFLScience. Dr. Lajos Berkes from the Humboldt University of Berlin and Professor Gabriel Nocchi Macedo from the University of Liège carefully studied this fragment. According to them, the manuscript known as “P.Hamb.Graec. 1011” is the oldest known example of the Gospel of Thomas, dating back to the 4th or 5th century AD. The text is the earliest known example of the apocryphal Infancy Gospel of Thomas. Image credit: Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Hamburg Before this discovery, the oldest copy of this Gospel was thought to date back to the 11th century AD. Dr Birks said: “The fragment is of extreme interest for research… because we have been able to date it to the 4th-5th century, making it the oldest known copy.” This ancient text, measuring approximately 11 by 5 centimeters and containing 13 lines of Greek script, was overlooked for decades because it was mistakenly thought to be an ordinary document due to its rough handwriting. The Gospel of Thomas tells of events from Jesus’ childhood that are not included in the Bible. Dr Nocchi Macedo confirmed: “Our findings on this late ancient Greek copy of the work support the modern assessment that the Gospel of Thomas was originally written in Greek.” This fragment includes the story known as “The Animation of the Sparrows” where little Jesus creates clay sparrows and brings them to life. The discovery of this papyrus is important because it provides historical context and helps scholars trace the development and spread of early Christian texts. Colbert, Daily Show Attack Alitos as 'Fascist' And 'Religious Nut'

CBS’s host of The Late Show, Stephen Colbert, and Comedy Central’s The Daily Show temp host Jordan Klepper tried to turn molehills into mountains on their Tuesday shows as they tried to claim that the secret recordings of Justice Samuel Alito and his wife, Martha-Ann, are proof of religious nuttery and even fascism. Colbert claimed the recordings prove Alito’s critics correct, “Alito's been in hot water lately for, among other things, flying multiple flags that support the January 6th insurrectionists outside of his homes. Now he has been secretly recorded saying what the flags only hinted at.”     After noting the recordings were taken by a “liberal activist” pretending to be a conservative, Colbert played an audio clip of Alito declaring that “One side or the other, one side or the other is going to win. I don't know. I mean, there can be a -- a way of working, a way of living together peacefully, but it's difficult, you know, because there are differences on fundamental things that really can't be compromised.” What Alito said is simply true. Either Republicans win the election or Democrats win the election. Either the plaintiffs win the case or the defendant wins the case. Either abortion is murder or it isn’t. It is also not Alito’s job to appease Colbert’s feelings by way of some political compromise disguised as law. However, Colbert spun this to suggest Alito is irremediably biased, “You're a Supreme Court justice. You're not supposed to be thinking about what side someone is on. You're supposed to decide cases. Impartial. That's why lady justice has a blindfold and a scale, not 3D glasses and a popcorn bucket!” Moving on, Colbert played a clip of Martha-Ann reacting to the criticism she has received, “Look at me. I'm German. From Germany. My heritage is German. You come after me, I'm gonna give it back to you.” Colbert stretched for the fascism card, “Ohhh. That clears it up. She's not a fascist. She's just hell-bent on revenge the ‘German way.’ Auf Deutch. Of course, if you're hanging out with Martha-Ann, we're talking' flag. Meanwhile, Klepper began his musings by also declaring that the recordings prove Alito’s critics right, “it turns out that the guy who overruled Roe v. Wade is a bit of a religious nut. But what was much more interesting is that this activist also recorded Alito's wife, Martha-Ann Alito. She's already been in the news for flying an upside-down American flag at their house after Trump lost the 2020 election, and then for flying a far-right Appeal to Heaven flag at their beach house. And if you thought two flags was a lot of flags, this lady is just getting started.”     After a clip of Martha-Ann expressing her desire to fly a Sacred Heart of Jesus flag in response to Pride Month, Klepper replied, “So, Martha-Ann got so mad after seeing a Pride flag that she's planning to put up a whole bunch of Jesus flags to combat it.” Extending his middle finger, he added, “Because everyone knows Jesus is the ultimate symbol of ‘[bleep] your love!’ And also, if she runs out of flags, don't worry: She's thinking up more flags in her head! Klepper also played a clip of Martha-Ann dreaming up her ideal flag, “This is how I -- I satisfy myself. I made a flag. It's white and it's yellow and orange flames around it. And in the middle is the word ‘Vergogna!’ ‘Vergogna’ in Italian means ‘Shame.’”  Enjoying the phrasing, Klepper suggested the Alitos would support the return of segregation, “Oh! wow, first off, what a burn on Justice Alito. Your wife is going around telling strangers that she has to think up new flags to satisfy herself. ‘I gotta think of new flags, cause it's not like there's anybody else taking care of my needs! Somebody's gotta Plessy my Ferguson!’” Meanwhile, on the other news of the day, Colbert didn’t see what the big deal about Hunter Biden is considering he’s not running for president, while Klepper applauded his guilty verdict as a win because it compelled Republicans to support gun control. Here is a transcript for the June 11 show: CBS The Late Show with Stephen Colbert 6/11/2024 11:45 PM ET STEPHEN COLBERT: There's more controversy for Supreme Court justice and baby who definitely does not want that airplane to come in for a landing, Samuel Alito. Alito's been in hot water lately for, among other things, flying multiple flags that support the January 6th insurrectionists outside of his homes. Now he has been secretly recorded saying what the flags only hinted at. See, last week, Alito attended a fancy dinner held by the Supreme Court historical society, where he met a woke in sheep's clothing, liberal activist and filmmaker Lauren Windsor, who asked questions of the justice as though she were a religious conservative. Now, I know that seems shady, but it's a legitimate interview technique taught at the Borat School of Journalism. Yes. The Borat school of journalism. Also where Alito learned how to blame everything on "My wiiiife." Here's Alito after Windsor complains that there's no way religious conservatives can possibly compromise with liberals. SAMUEL ALITO: I think you're probably right. One side or the other, one side or the other is going to win. I don't know. I mean, there can be a -- a way of working, a way of living together peacefully, but it's difficult, you know, because there are differences on fundamental things that really can't be compromised. COLBERT: You're a Supreme Court justice. You're not supposed to be thinking about what side someone is on. You're supposed to decide cases. Impartial. That's why lady justice has a blindfold and a scale, not 3D glasses and a popcorn bucket! These surreptitious recordings also captured Alito's flag-addicted wife, Martha-Ann. Now, she's already caught a lot of heat from the flag stuff. And when Windsor asked her about the blowback about the flags, Martha-Ann said she'd get even. LAUREN WINDSOR: They're persecuting you. MARTHA-ANN ALITO: Look at me. I'm German. From Germany. My heritage is German. You come after me, I'm gonna give it back to you. COLBERT: Ohhh. That clears it up. She's not a fascist. She's just hell-bent on revenge the "German way." Auf Deutch. Of course, if you're hanging out with Martha-Ann, we're talking' flag. MARTHA ANN-ALITO: You know what I want? I want a Sacred Heart of Jesus flag, because I have to look across the lagoon at the Pride flag for the next month. COLBERT: I believe we actually have footage of Martha-Ann after seeing a Pride flag from her beach house. JENNIFER COOLIDGE [as Tonya Mcquoid in The White Lotus]: These gays, they're trying to murder me. COLBERT: But that-- I got a few things, we’ll figure it out-- but that was just the tip of the flagberg. Because as it turns out, Justice Alito may have tried to discourage his wife's favorite hobby. MARTHA ANN-ALITO: And he's like, "Oh, please don't put up a flag." I said, "I won't do it because I'm deferring to you. But when you are free of this nonsense, I'm putting it up and I'm gonna send them a message every day. Maybe every week, I'll be changing the flags. They'll be all kinds. I made a flag in my head. This is how I satisfy myself. COLBERT: Satisfy yourself? Really? I'm not gonna kink shame. But why is her anger always channeled through flags? I'd love to see her get cut off in traffic. "Oooh, have I got a flag in my head for you, Subaru Outback. Ooh, just two weeks from now, just you wait. You are gonna get it. Siri, navigate to Joan fabrics." Now, Martha-Ann went on to describe her perfect imaginary revenge flag. MARTA-ANN ALITO: It's white and it has yellow and orange flames around it. And in the middle is the word "Vergogna." "Vergogna" in Italian means shame, vergogna. V-E-R-G-O-G-N-A. Vergogna. COLBERT: First of all, there's already an Italian flag that means shame. And it's this one, but, I can go for a little. But I can see why she took the trouble to spell it out. "Oh, look, the Alitos put up a new flag. What does it say? Ver-gina? With flames around it? I think somebody has a yeast infection! Take an oatmeal bath, honey!"  Look, Mrs. Alito, I know you want to express your disapproval of pride month by hoisting a "Vergogna" up the flagpole, but unfortunately, "Vergogna Flagpole" is already the name of a very successful drag queen.  When she wasn't fantasizing about attacking people through semaphore, it sounded like Martha-Ann was having a pretty good time at the party. Here she is bidding farewell to a friend named cat. MARTHA-ANN ALITO: Bye, baby! Bye, cat! Meow, mow, mow, mow. Mow, mow. She's a bad girl.  COLBERT: By the way, "Meow, mow, mow, mow, she's a bad girl," also the catchphrase of Vergogna Flagpole *** Comedy Central The Daily Show 6/11/2024 11:01 PM ET JORDAN KLEPPER: But let's move on to some news out of the Supreme Court. Last weekend, an undercover activist snuck into a private reception and secretly recorded Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito. And no surprise: it turns out that the guy who overruled Roe v. And if you thought two flags was a lot of flags, this lady is just getting started. MARTHA-ANN ALITO: You know what I want? I want a Sacred Heart of Jesus flag because I have to look across the lagoon at the Pride flag for the next month. And he's like, “oh, please don't put up a flag.” I said, “I won't do it because I'm deferring to you. But when you are free of this nonsense, I'm putting it up and I'm going to send them a message every day, maybe every week, I'll be changing the flags.” KLEPPER: Holy shit, this lady loves flags. I mean, once Alito retires, that house is going to look like a [bleep] Spanish galleon! I mean, lady, the United Nations called, they said, tone it down with the flags. Even Betsy Ross is like, "Jesus, I was only doing this because we didn't have Netflix." Liking flags this much is, ironically, the ultimate red flag. And, yeah, it's a thinker. And I love how she refers to her husband's job as "nonsense." This man is one of the most consequential men in the country, but she's like, "I can't wait until you're done with your little black robe bullshit so I can focus on what really matters: semaphore." So, Martha-Ann got so mad after seeing a Pride flag that she's planning to put up a whole bunch of Jesus flags to combat it. Because everyone knows Jesus is the ultimate symbol of "[bleep] your love!" And also, if she runs out of flags, don't worry: She's thinking up more flags in her head! MARTHA-ANN ALITO” There'll be all kinds. I made a flag in my head. This is how I -- I satisfy myself. I made a flag. It's white and it's yellow and orange flames around it. And in the middle is the word "Vergogna!" "Vergogna" in Italian means "Shame."  KLEPPER: Oh! wow, first off, what a burn on Justice Alito. Your wife is going around telling strangers that she has to think up new flags to satisfy herself. "I gotta think of new flags, cause it's not like there's anybody else taking care of my needs! Somebody's gotta Plessy my Ferguson!  Come on! Not to be a hater, but designing a special flag for yourself is literally a homework assignment my kindergartener just had. He drew a butt farting on a stick figure man who I'm pretty sure is supposed to be me. I don't love it, but it still beats "Vergogna."

Revealed: Trump's possible strategy after indictment

There are so many examples of due process violations in the Trump cases, Mark Levin believes that “they’re almost impossible to compile.” “What was the point of all these due process violations? To influence the election,” Levin says, answering himself. “How? They get a guilty verdict. And so, while you’re in the one lane trying to overturn that guilty verdict, you’re in this other path you're trying to create to the steps of the Supreme Court.” “You have the interference in a presidential election,” Levin adds, noting that this and the due process violations are what Trump must focus on in order to win this legal battle. “You have equal protection arguments that you can make as well,” he says. So, how does Trump get this to the Supreme Court? “You’re building a path to the Supreme Court that the Supreme Court may not entertain. You still have deadlines on the appellate process in the state. You don’t want to blow through those, so you still need to do that for your client. And ultimately, if the best thing you can do has to be done after the election, then it’s done after the election." “But you don’t have to just stand for that, so you try and build a path to the Supreme Court,” Levin says. While Levin notes that he can’t find a runaround way to the Supreme Court, he’s found another way. “I’ve spent time digging into this,” Levin says. “In New York, you would file the notice of appeal to preserve your right to appeal and ask for a stay of the trial court.” “I would file an emergency notice of appeal,” he continues, adding, “and I would seek from that New York appellate court an expedited or emergency review. Then, I might file applications for the common law writs with the U.S. Supreme Court, where the Supreme Court can take action if it chooses and legitimately claim the harm is immediate and ongoing.” Want more from Mark Levin? To enjoy more of "the Great One" — Mark Levin as you've never seen him before — subscribe to BlazeTV — the largest multi-platform network of voices who love America, defend the Constitution, and live the American dream.

'I can't do this': Dana White admits walkout from Howie Mandel podcast was staged

UFC President Dana White revealed that a viral moment when he walked off the set of a podcast was staged and that it was discussed with the host beforehand.White appeared on legendary comedian Howie Mandel's podcast in February 2024, and after Mandel praised the fight promoter, White declared he was done with podcasts and walked out of frame after just 30 seconds."Thank you for all the kind words; I appreciate it," White said. "I am so f***ing tired of doing podcasts. I am literally done with them. I am not doing any more podcasts," he added before walking off. However, months later, White explained that events occurred during a promotional appearance that caused him to break his promise to Mandel and reveal that the walkout was staged. The UFC president said that after he appeared on "The Sage Steele Show" — which had a viral moment of its own — he was approached by Mandel.'Whoa, whoa, whoa, time out, I can't do this. Howie Mandel's the greatest f***ing dude ever. Sorry, Howie.'"She was signed to Bill Maher's podcast company, and they're all done there in Howie Mandel's studio," White told comedians Andrew Schulz and Akaash Singh on the "Flagrant" podcast. "So we get done with the podcast and Howie Mandel walks in and he's like, '100 podcasts a week happen here. I've never watched any of them. I watched the whole podcast. Love who you are, what you stand for' and all this stuff. And we hit it off, started talking. Great dude," White continued."He's like, 'Let me show you around the studio.' He's involved in all kinds of s***," White said of Mandel. "He owns social media companies and all this other stuff. Howie Mandel owns a lot of s*** that people don't realize. Smart guy, great guy. So we're walking through and stuff and he goes, 'Would you do me a favor?' And I said, 'Yeah, what's up?' He's like, 'Would you come in and get up and walk off my podcast?' I go, 'I would be f***ing honored to walk off your podcast because I'm so f***ing sick of doing podcasts, it's not even funny.'"White added that the timing worked out perfectly because he was indeed sick of doing podcasts."So we go in there and do it, right? He's like, 'Take this to the grave.' I said, 'Done, I'll take it to the grave.'"Unfortunately, White was not able to keep the secret, but only because of his good nature. While doing a promotional tour with pranksters and entrepreneurs the Nelk Boys, White said a huge crowd of youngsters started chanting "f**k Howie Mandel!" over and over again. White said he couldn't let the fans go on thinking poorly of Mandel."I go, 'Whoa, whoa, whoa, time out, I can't do this,'" White recalled. "Howie Mandel's the greatest f***ing dude ever. Sorry, Howie. It's just when I go out and people just start f***ing s***ting on the guy. And I'm sure he could give a flying f*** — I couldn't do it. So Howie Mandel's f***ing awesome."Although White broke that promise, he soon made another before the end of the "Flagrant" podcast. White said that after appearing on the Tom Brady roast that saw him perform jokes, he promised he would never do stand-up comedy again.Like Blaze News? The endgame is nigh for the Democratic public-private campaign against Justice Alito

The Democratic establishment has in recent months waged a concerted public-private campaign to neutralize conservative justices on the U.S. Supreme Court. Democratic lawmakers and their allies in the media have admitted that part of what's driving this campaign is the need to swing upcoming rulings in their favor. After all, the cases under consideration related to the 2020 election and the Jan. 6 protests as well as regarding the question of former President Donald Trump's immunity in U.S. v. Donald Trump, may prove consequential in November. Christopher Bedford, senior editor for politics and Washington correspondent for Blaze Media, recently indicated that the broader purpose is "to try to combat virtually the only check remaining on the Democrat Party's political power." A senior Republican aide told Bedford that Democrats' overall strategy is fourfold: First, incentivize justices to defect and change their rulings. Second, delegitimize the Court’s outputs. Third, provide political cover for aggressive ethics reforms that are stalking horses for bureaucratic controls to kneecap the Republican majority, such as mandatory recusals on the basis of unevenly applied ethical standards. And fourth, create the political conditions necessary for court-packing. Desperate, per this scheme, for Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas to recuse themselves, Democratic operatives have manufactured scandals, drummed up outrage, and applied scrutiny and standards to the conservative justices they would not otherwise put to Justices Elena Kagan, Sonia Sotomayor, and Ketanji Brown Jackson. With little runway left and a trail of failures behind them, Democrats are now leaning into the latest manufactured scandal over Justice Alito and Martha-Ann Alito's secretly recorded remarks at the Supreme Court Historical Society's annual dinner on June 3. While false-flagger Lauren Windsor of Democracy Partners completes her media grand tour pushing Democrats' preferred narrative, fellow travelers in the Senate are attempting to advance a so-called SCOTUS ethics bill to effectively force Alito's submission. Flags and failures Blaze News previously reported that Obama hagiographer Jodi Kantor initiated the latest public-private campaign on May 16 with a piece in the New York Times entitled, "At Justice Alito's House, a 'Stop the Steal' Symbol on Display." The so-called "Stop the Steal" symbol in question was the American flag, which Martha-Ann Alito flew upside-down "in response to a neighbor's use of objectionable and personally insulting language on yard signs." While it was clear Justice Alito had nothing to do with the distressed flag, Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), and others were evidently ready for Kantor's report, immediately seizing upon it as an opportunity to demand that Alito both apologize and recuse himself. Democrats ramped up their pressure campaign while the Times and other liberal publications leaned further into the false narrative — that the flying of the flag had something to do with the January 2021 Capitol protests, that Justice Alito possibly flew the flag, and that the justice was therefore ideologically compromised. When the false flag narrative failed to yield results, the public-private campaign tried a new angle, sounding the alarm over Justice Alito's divestment from Anheuser-Busch InBev months after it became clear the company would not soon recover from the boycott over its collaboration with a transvestite activist. What to nonpartisans may have registered as a sound investment decision was to leftist publications "suspicious" — more evidence that Alito should not be making decisions. 'I am therefore duty-bound to reject your recusal request.' That spinoff scandal similarly didn't take. Kantor then penned another alarmist piece — this time aided by former Bellingcat research director Aric Toler and former Washington Post researcher Julie Tate — concern-mongering about "An Appeal to Heaven" flag allegedly flying above Alito's New Jersey beach house. The suggestion was this flag, which flew outside of San Francisco's Democratic-controlled city hall for 60 years until late last month, was again an insurrectionist symbol reflecting poorly upon the conservative justice. Not only was this line of attack similarly ineffective, it led to Justice Alito telling Sens. Durbin and Whitehouse he would not be recusing himself. "A reasonable person who is not motivated by political or ideological considerations or a desire to affect the outcome of Supreme Court cases would conclude that this event does not meet the applicable standard for recusal," wrote Alito. Having previously referenced the disqualification provision in the court's code of conduct, the justice added, "I am therefore duty-bound to reject your recusal request." Democrats, growing desperate — especially after the Times undercut the previous flag narrative with details about Alito's rabid leftist neighbor — began to dream up new ways to kneecap Alito. Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) penned an op-ed in the New York Times, suggesting the Biden Department of Justice can lean on the high court to help Democrats get their way. Barring a total collapse of the separation of powers and a clampdown by the Biden DOJ, Raskin and other Democrats' campaign to control the court from the sidelines appeared dead in the water; however, on Monday, Lauren Windsor put some wind in their sails. Secret recordings Lauren Windsor is a self-described "advocacy journalist" on the team at Robert Creamer's Democrat-aligned Democracy Partners. Creamer, who previously pleaded guilty to tax violations and to bank fraud, is the husband of Democratic Rep. Jan Schakowsky (Ill.). Democracy Partners has served numerous Democratic groups across the country and leftist lawmakers such as Sens. Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) and Cory Booker (N.J.). It has also worked for clients such as Anheuser-Busch, Wikimedia, GLAAD, Human Rights, the American Federation of Teachers, and ActBlue. Windsor, a partner at Democracy Partners and the executive director of the Democratic-aligned dark money group American Family Voices, helped the Lincoln Project stage a fake white supremacist rally in 2021 to smear then-candidate Glenn Youngkin ahead of the Virginia gubernatorial election. She has also spent time in recent years attempting to dox Project Veritas operatives. Rather than create another fake hate rally this election season to help Democrats, Windsor claimed to be a religious conservative and secretly recorded brief conversations with Justice Alito last year and again on June 3. In the most recent instance, Windsor also recorded a conversation with Mrs. Alito. Despite the anticipation and subsequent spin, Windsor not only failed to catch the Alitos saying anything damning but helped to further undermine the public-private campaign's previous narrative. In the secret recordings, Alito notes that: The left and right disagree on "fundamental things that really can't be compromised"; there will likely be a victor in the culture war; American citizens ought to "heal this polarization because it's very dangerous"; and the Supreme Court is "not a law enforcement agency" and therefore cannot be weaponized against criminal leakers. Mrs. Alito, alternatively, makes clear that: She is an agential woman whose decisions about what flag to fly are not determined by her husband; Justice Alito cautioned her against flying the supposedly controversial flags; she entertained the thought of flying a Sacred Heart [of Jesus] flag in response to a nearby LGBT activist flag; she finds comfort in Psalm 27 and is unshaken by her vilification in the press; and she might ultimately hold the liberal media accountable for alleged defamation with legal action. While the recordings were relatively benign, the private side to the campaign has stressed that the couple's comments are, again, compromising and demonstrative of Justice Alito's inability to be impartial. Public-private swan song Windsor desperately attempted to provide other Democrats with the spin they needed, telling MSNBC's Alex Wagner, for instance, "The American people deserve to know: Is the Supreme Court so compromised that we do not really have impartiality? ... I think, hearing it from his mouth, that he cannot be impartial, that there are things that cannot be compromised, that needs to be fuel for journalists and for Congress to say, 'Okay, well, tell us what are the things that can't be compromised?'" — (@) Windsor repeatedly suggested in other interviews that Alito's observation of the incommensurability between contemporary liberal and rightist worldviews constitutes an admission that he himself cannot be objective — a talking point the Associated Press and other publications have adopted. 'His rising power on the Supreme Court is a threat to our democracy.' Speaking to NewsNation's Chris Cuomo, Windsor said that in terms of holding the Supreme Court accountable, "I think extreme measures are warranted." Once the false-flagger had set the narrative with the help of Rolling Stone, CNN, and other liberal outfits, Democratic lawmakers did their part. Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) wrote in response to the recordings, "Stomach turning & scary. Such repugnant threats of revenge reveal a mindset — apparently shared by Alito himself, since he's declined to disown it. Also unacceptable is Roberts' lack of leadership & Congressional inaction because of Republican resistance." Sen. Elizabeth Warren said, "Alito is an extremist who is out of touch with mainstream America. His rising power on the Supreme Court is a threat to our democracy," reported The Hill. "I am most concerned about the appearance that Justice Alito has prejudged cases that will come before him," continued Warren. "That is one of the biggest sins that a judge or justice can commit, and his willingness to align so publicly in the middle of a hotly contested political battle is deeply worrisome." Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) tweeted, "Alito answered like a movement activist. Movement activists have their role but it's not on the Supreme Court." Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) indicated that Democrats would seek to advance their so-called ethics bill via unanimous consent Wednesday, reported The Hill. "I don't rule out any tactic at this point. Our initial effort is to enact the law that passed the committee 11-10. We're going to try to do that this week with a [unanimous consent request]," said Durbin. South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham vowed to block the effort, telling NBC News, "I will object." The proposed legislation, the so-called "Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency Act of 2023," cleared the Senate Judiciary Committee in a party-line vote last July but has not yet been brought to the floor for a vote. The bill would greatly advance the public-private campaign's cause by expanding the circumstances under which a justice must be disqualified and require the high court to both adopt a code of conduct for justices and establish procedures to receive and investigate complaints of judicial misconduct. While liberal justices have ethics issues all their own, Senate Democrats have indicated who the real target of the bill is. "Alito is becoming a loose cannon turned on the Court itself. He mocks ethics," said Blumenthal. "Really discouraging — in fact, outrageous — that Roberts is implicitly condoning Alito’s behavior, so demeaning to the Court & degrading to himself." Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) said, "These are people who want to destroy public confidence in all of our institutions and they are focused on the Supreme Court in particular." The Hill indicated Cornyn has made clear the bill won't go anywhere, at least this week. Senate Republican Whip John Thune (S.D.) said the bill amounts to another attempt "by the left to delegitimize the court." Like Blaze News?
