Netanyahu Might Not Be Able to Attend Auschwitz Liberation Anniversary for Disgusting Reason

The leader of the Jewish state of Israel likely won't be attending the liberation anniversary of the concentration camp that makes one of the best arguments for the establishment of the Jewish state of Israel. Why? Because the International Criminal Court has contempt for the Jewish state of Israel. According...

Jimmy Stewart, A World At War, And Why ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’ Was Almost Less Wonderful: Part I

This article was previously published on December 20, 2023. The beloved Christmas classic film “It’s a Wonderful Life” was the movie that brought a beleaguered and combat-weary actor James “Jimmy” Stewart back to fans after the war — but it may have also been the movie that brought a desperate man back from the brink. James Maitland Stewart was preparing to go to war for several years before he was drafted in 1941. He earned a civilian pilot’s license in the hopes that the Army would let him fly — and he even took a trip to Europe in 1939 to get a feel for the landscape, knowing that it was likely he would end up there at some point. By the time the Empire of Japan launched its surprise attack on the American naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, Stewart had already attempted to join the Army. Rejected once in 1940 because he was underweight, the always-slim actor attempted to pack on a few pounds and ultimately turned to a doctor for a note explaining that he was just genetically predisposed to be thin. Biographer Robert Matzen — who wrote “Mission: Jimmy Stewart and the Fight for Europe” — explained, “Step by step, he set himself up to end up in England in a bomb group. One of those steps was taken years before he was drafted, and that was when he became a star in Hollywood and bought a plane that was an army trainer and proceeded to learn to fly and train, and log hours on that plane so that he could be a pilot when the war came.” Portrait of American actor lieutenant colonel James Stewart (1908 – 1997), 1944. US Army/PhotoQuest/Getty Images. Stewart’s determination — and his pre-war preparations — did not pay off immediately, however. The actor, who was fresh off his Best Actor win in 1940’s “The Philadelphia Story,” was initially drafted to appear in film reels and enlistment propaganda films — but eventually he demanded to see combat alongside his other draftees. Stewart eventually got what he asked for, rising through the ranks from buck private to major in just four years and earning a spot in the cockpit of a B-24 Liberator heavy bomber known as Dixie Flyer. He flew dozens of missions over Germany, some as command pilot, and earned both a Distinguished Service Medal and a Distinguished Flying Cross. But toward the end of the 8th Air Force’s Big Week in early 1944 — a six-day mission in late February originally named Operation Argument and designed to decimate the German Luftwaffe in preparation for the D-Day invasion — things went sideways. Stewart was on his 10th mission as a leader and serving as co-pilot when his plane was hit. The German flak left a sizable hole in the fuselage of his plane — just inches from his feet. And while he and his pilot were able to recover, when the smoke cleared from the cockpit, they had to watch as another in their squadron took a similar strike, lost a wing, and plummeted toward the ground. Stewart was not the same after that and was eventually grounded. At the time, his condition was referred to as “flak-happy,” “shell-shock,” or “combat fatigue” — but today’s doctors might have diagnosed the decorated pilot with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. “He wasn’t afraid of bombs or bullets. He was afraid of making a mistake and causing someone to die. That was his endless stress, and that’s what ended up grounding him,” Matzen wrote. (Original Caption) 9/1/1945-New York, New York-Just like any serviceman returning from the war, Colonel James Stewart was greeted by his proud parents, who journeyed from Indiana, PA, to see their son after his arrival aboard the Queen Elizabeth. Getty Images. He returned home to his proud parents in Pennsylvania. On the outside, he was a war hero; on the inside, he was nearly broken. Surviving on little more than peanut butter and ice cream — he struggled to keep any solid foods down — Stewart’s already thin frame became painfully so. Still, he decided after a short time at home that what he really needed was to get back to work. “I have to go back and face Hollywood. I’ve been away for five years, other people are taking my roles,” he said — but when he got there, he quickly realized that the landscape had changed and so had he. Stewart ended up sharing an apartment with fellow actor Henry Fonda, who had also recently returned after serving in the Pacific. Lt. Henry Fonda (1905 – 1982) during his military service on board the USS Bearss, summer 1945. (Photo by PhotoQuest/Getty Images) “I had been away from the film business, my MGM contract had run out and, frankly, not knowing how to get started again, I was just a little bit scared,” Stewart described the precarious nature of his situation in a 1987 interview with Guideposts. “Hank Fonda was in the same boat, and we sort of wandered around together, talking, flying kites and stuff. But nothing much was happening.” Stewart got only one offer in those early weeks. His former boss and MGM exec Louis B. Mayer proposed a biopic capitalizing on the star’s military service. “Let’s do ‘The Jimmy Stewart Story’ — we can show you flying over Frankfurt, we can show you as a military hero,” Mayer said. Stewart’s answer was an unequivocal “No,” and he flatly refused to discuss the matter further. Director Frank Capra, an Italian immigrant who had been naturalized after serving in World War I, had also spent time away from Hollywood during the war. As soon as Army Chief of Staff Gen. George Marshall got wind of Capra’s enlistment, he had him commissioned as a major and assigned to report to him personally. Italian-American film director Frank Capra (1897 – 1991) as a Lieutenant-Colonel in the US Army, during a stay in London, World War II, 19th August 1943. (Photo by Keystone/Hulton Archive/Getty Images) “To win this war we must win the battle for men’s minds,” Marshall told Capra in one of their early meetings. “I want to nail down with you a plan to make a series of documented, factual-information films – the first in our history – that will explain to our boys in the Army why we are fighting, and the principles for which we are fighting.” Capra protested, explaining that he had never made any film that could be considered a “documentary.” Marshall responded with the gruff bluster that he was known for, saying, “Capra, I have never been chief of staff before. Thousands of young Americans have never had their legs shot off before. Boys are commanding ships today, who a year ago had never seen the ocean before.” “I’m sorry, sir. I’ll make you the best damned documentary films ever made,” was Capra’s reply. But when it was all over, Capra returned to Hollywood in much the same state as Stewart: adrift, and wondering if he still had what it took to deliver what the fans wanted.

Back To Factory Settings: Why Celebs Are Ditching Overdone Plastic Surgery

No one would accuse celebrities of being humble or uninterested in their looks. But despite their legendary vanity and obsession with youth, the tide may be turning on the plastic surgery craze.  These days it’s a lot more likely that a star brags about removing fillers and implants and going makeup free. For once, reality is winning the war against total phoniness. Example one: Pamela Anderson, who became famous thanks to her oversized chest and dramatic makeup. These days the “Baywatch” star has been making headlines for appearing on the red carpet without any makeup at all beginning in 2023. Pamela Anderson has completely ditched wearing makeup and is instead choosing to embrace her natural beauty at aged 57. pic.twitter.com/wanPNORCAG — Oli London (@OliLondonTV) October 12, 2024 “This whole peeling it back was kind of how I just started. I just wanted to remember who I was,” Anderson told Entertainment Tonight in early December.  “I mean I’ve been playing characters my whole life — I want to play characters in movies, not in my personal life,” she went on. “I just want to be me, so this is an experiment. It’s just something I feel drawn to do — I didn’t even think anyone would notice!” It’s similar to what the actress told Better Homes & Gardens during an August interview. “That was the beginning of me letting go of the image I had always had of myself. What is this cartoon character that I’d created? OK, that was fun. But I’m not that person anymore.” Anderson isn’t the only one. Singer Megan Trainor spoke candidly about the possible downsides of cosmetic treatments, even minor ones like filler. She told podcast listeners that doing a simple procedure left her unable to smile. “I messed up,” she admitted.  “Someone convinced me with my little lips that if you did a lip flip, you put filler right above your upper lip, that you could have a beautiful flip on your upper lip. And I could have one for the first time in my whole 30 years of living — it was not true,” Trainor continued.  Meghan Trainor says she can no longer smile after getting Botox: “To all my fellow girlies out there who are in your 30s out there, hi. I got too much Botox, and I need help… Someone convinced me with my little lips that – if you did a lip flip [and] you put filler right above… pic.twitter.com/TFADjnjtrp — Pop Crave (@PopCrave) November 30, 2024 “I cannot smile anymore,” she said. “Everywhere I go, I cannot smile. My face hurts to smile, to even try.” She recommended that fans shouldn’t “try everything.” “Little House on the Prairie” actress Melissa Gilbert also said she had some cosmetic surgery regret, describing the final results as making her look like “the spawn of Satan.” “I had no facial expression, which is anathema considering what I do for a living,” Gilbert said at the time, adding, “It’s exhausting keeping up that kind of façade. I was very insecure.” Melissa Gilbert says botched Botox left her looking like the ‘spawn of Satan’ https://t.co/9hYrQam8BH pic.twitter.com/DhugNII5C3 — New York Post (@nypost) November 9, 2023 Plastic surgeons recently discussed the growing trend of patients working to “de-Kardashian” their bodies, as The Daily Wire previously reported. And while they aren’t forgoing cosmetic surgery all together, they are going for subtlety over the exaggerated, Jessica Rabbit look that’s been popular for so long. “Lifts and even breast reductions are on the rise, along with tummy tucks to make the midsection look more fit,” New York plastic surgeon Darren Smith told The Hollywood Reporter. “I see a 20 percent increase in women coming in for lifts this year over last,” Lyle Leipziger, chief of plastic and reconstructive surgery at both North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center, said. “And those that want implants only want to go up one bra size.” Southern California cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Annie Chiu said that social media has spurred “injectable backlash,” adding that “the filler market has been down in ’24.” “At first, everyone was encouraged to get that very contoured, overfilled Instagram face, but now there is a real fear of looking weird,” Dr. Chiu said. Former child star Lindsay Lohan has the best example of a recent glow up. Social media went wild when she was promoting her new Netflix holiday film, aptly named “Our Little Secret,” and followers insisted she suddenly look ten years younger.  An esthetician compared photos of Lohan in a viral TikTok in November, saying, “I need to know absolutely everything that occurred between 2018 to 2024 to have this crazy of a transformation. I’m in the industry and I’m at a loss for words.” Is this Lindsay Lohan's secret to aging backwards? Star reveals skincare routine amid drastic glow-up https://t.co/5GdgEK5yQg — Daily Mail Celebrity (@DailyMailCeleb) November 22, 2024 Other celebrities including Christina Aguilera and Donatella Versace appear to have opted for more natural looks, which one TikTok user said was the equivalent of returning to “factory settings.”  She asked, “Who is the magic engineer? Who has the magic wand?”  “It’s not just undetectable; it’s understated,” Dr. Anthony Rossi, a dermatologist and surgeon who hosts the podcast “Give Good Face: Clean Clinical Science, said of the new trend, per USA Today. “It’s very minimalistic, but with improvements, and so it’s not this over-the-top, in-your-face, big cheeks, frozen face. It’s really more subtle. It’s really nice and refined. I love it. I think New York has been like that for a while and now other areas are catching up with it.” That may also include getting breast implants removed, something that multiple celebrities including reality stars, models, and actresses including Anderson, Tori Spelling, Chrissy Teigen, and more have been doing in recent years.  Race car driver Danica Patrick explained her decision with US Weekly in 2022.  “I had tried for a year to resolve certain health issues and certain things going on that were outside of the norm and outside of what I thought there was a reason for it,” Patrick said at the time. “Um, and so it wasn’t like I thought I’ll get surgery and tell everyone, and it’ll be the magic fix to things. I had tried so many other things that I really had hoped would’ve been the fix, but it wasn’t. And so when I finally found something after so much searching and for a long year of a lot of testing and a lot of different protocols, it made a difference. … I feel amazing and it just keeps getting better.” We’re still a long way from seeing celebrities embrace the reality of aging gracefully, but the backlash against over-the-top plastic surgery is at least a step in a more natural-looking direction.

Even Retail Stores Are Capitalizing On Viral ‘Trump Dance’ For Sales

Even retail stores have decided to capitalize on the “Trump Dance” in honor of President-elect Donald Trump, which became a viral hit during the 2024 election. Christmas shoppers in Manhattan noticed the apparent Trump dance moves by a pair of animatronic mannequins showing off colorful puffer coats in a window display of the women’s clothing store Aritzia, the New York Post reported. Those who saw the Fifth Avenue store window appeared to celebrate the display and praised the creativity, the outlet noted. “There’s a new president, so [the display] isn’t bad to us,” one passerby said. “Maybe it is for some people.” ? The dance is utterly contagious, it’s even seeped into deep-blue New York City.pic.twitter.com/SCF6GjANRt — Eric Daugherty (@EricLDaugh) December 21, 2024 “It’s an attention-getter,” a tourist named Chris, who was shopping with his family from West Palm Beach, Florida, said. Chris’s wife, Kam, said, “And if it is [the Trump dance], it’s OK. You can like it or hate it.” Some even stopped by to watch the dancing coats while others joined in on the fun, according to a video by the Post. Caroline, a Baltimore, Md., resident, said, “That is how he [Trump] dances,” before demonstrating the moves. “It looks like it,” she added. “But I guess a lot of people dance like that. Trump is just the one that’s in front of the cameras all the time.” “I definitely see it,’’ Ray, a Los Angeles tourist, said when asked about the similarities between the mannequins and President-elect Trump’s moves. Despite the similarities, a source with knowledge told the outlet that the mannequins’ gestures were “definitely just generic dance moves” that are “not intended to mimic anything or anyone.” It became a trend on social media after supporters made videos of themselves doing the same dance moves that Trump often did when he danced to the Village People’s “Y.M.C.A.” at his numerous campaign rallies. NFL players from across the league and other stars in the sports world started celebrating their individual victories by doing the viral dance sensation. Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers made the Trump-esque dance moves when he scored a touchdown after he caught a 23-yard pass late in the third quarter against the Miami Dolphins in Week 17 of this year.  During the Detroit Lions game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Za’Darius Smith and Malcolm Rodriguez celebrated their team’s defensive stop by also doing the funny Trump-esque dance moves. Tennessee Titans players Calvin Ridley and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine busted out the Trump moves ahead of what appeared to be a touchdown during the team’s game against the Minnesota Vikings. The viral dance even made an appearance at the Concacaf Nations League Quarterfinals in St. Louis, when U.S. men’s soccer star Christian Pulisic celebrated making the first goal in the team’s 4-2 victory against Jamaica by rocking the viral dance moves. 10 Best Songs With The Word ‘White’ In The Title

By exploring these songs, we dive into the myriad ways artists have used “white” as a metaphor, a statement, or a mood, proving the word’s versatility in shaping unforgettable musical moments. Billy Idol’s “White Wedding” delivers a darkly romantic anthem that captures the rebellious spirit of 1980s rock, while Foreigner’s “Dirty White Boy” serves as an unapologetic declaration of independence and self-identity. The Moody Blues’ “Nights in White Satin” weaves a lush, orchestral tapestry of love and longing, contrasting with The Velvet Underground’s gritty and experimental “White Light/White Heat,” which channels the chaotic energy of the counterculture. Japan’s Military Buildup on Right Track, but Needs to Accelerate

Japan is engaged in a significant military buildup by boosting domestic defense spending, refining its national security strategy, and strengthening multilateral security partnerships with its allies, chiefly the United States. The military buildup is designed to deter China’s increased aggression toward the Japanese mainland and islands. Japan is paying special attention to the defense of the Senkaku Islands, where China has been conducting routine coercive military incursions. This tactic seeks to steadily pressure Japan on China’s unlawful claim to the Japanese-administered islands. Japan also is reaching out to other countries in the region. Last year, Japan, South Korea, and the United States committed to strengthening their trilateral security relationship. The three nations’ investments in defensive capabilities and streamlined interoperability are critical to countering the communist regimes of China and North Korea in the region. Japan is in the second year of a five-year Defense Capability Buildup Program. The Japanese Ministry of Defense’s budget request for fiscal year 2025 totaled 8.54 trillion yen, about $59 billion. That budget puts Japanese defense spending at 1.6% of gross domestic product, which will need to accelerate to fulfill the 2022 National Security Strategy’s plan to spend 2% of GDP on defense by fiscal 2027. Japan would do well to accelerate its spending plans and to reach (and then surpass) this defense spending goal more quickly, given the immediate nature of the security challenge posed by China. Japan is prioritizing the procurement of standoff capabilities necessary to effectively hold an invasion force at bay from within Japanese territory. The fiscal 2025 budget funds creation of complex satellite arrays to detect long-range threats and new long-range missile upgrades, including the Joint Strike Missile, for the Japanese fighter fleet. America and Japan also are accelerating joint planning. The U.S. reportedly is proposing temporary missile bases along Japan’s Nansei island chain in the event of a Taiwan contingency with China, which would compound the advantage provided by the new standoff capabilities. Japan’s National Security Strategy also allocates significant funding to the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force, a crucial investment for a potential conflict with China that largely would be naval. This includes acquisition of transport ships, naval missiles and anti-ship missiles, new Aegis guided-missile destroyers, and reorganization of Japan’s surface fleet. Increased defense industrial base cooperation between American allies and Japanese industry is a net benefit for both countries as well. Japanese shipbuilding is highly advanced and efficient, to the extent that U.S. Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro requested Japanese investment in American shipbuilding in 2024. Also this year, the United States and Japan agreed on a landmark coproduction deal of Patriot missiles and Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles, or AMRAAM, in a move that should help fill the stocks of both militaries and reduce production costs. And Japanese officials are negotiating a plan to contract the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of U.S. Navy vessels in Japanese shipyards. The plan could help relieve America’s domestic maintenance backlog and allow our shipyards to focus on revitalizing our Navy. Japan is stepping up by strengthening its military and planning to accelerate the military buildup in coming years, but faster action would be welcomed. Given the near-term challenge posed by China’s own aggressive military buildup, the more Japan can do now, the better.
