Jake the cowboy robot is a product of Unitree Robotics, a Chinese tech company. The Unitree G1 model has been available since May 2024 and carries a starting base price of around $16,000. The cowboy bot has received a lot of attention from local press with citizens posting their sightings and interactions with it. This innovative robot is not autonomous. A human handler remotely operates him. Jake speaks in Gen Z and Gen Alpha slang, sounding very much like a teenager. Older people might need a translator. The robot’s programming fits perfectly into Austin’s environment. No one knows who owns Jake. He has the words “In Training” emblazoned across his chest, but no one knows what he is training for. In many of the videos, we can identify the same man carrying a small tablet. This appears to be Jake’s controller. Jake is hilarious. Whoever programmed him made sure Jake has as normal a life as possible. Jake’s voice is unique, but he doesn’t have a discernible accent.
