The House of Representatives on Thursday passed a bill that would repeal the student loan plan issued by the Biden administration after its original plan was ruled unlawful by the Supreme Court. The Saving on a Valuable Education (SAVE) plan was issued by the Department of Education on July 10‚ less than two weeks after the Supreme Court struck down the administration’s plan to forgive $10‚000 of student debt held by all borrowers making less than $125‚000 a year. House Republicans‚ who have opposed all student debt forgiveness plans by the administration‚ passed a bill that would repeal the SAVE plan on Thursday‚ by a vote of 210 yeas to 189 nays. “The only difference between President [Joe] Biden and a snake oil salesman is a title. Biden’s administration knows what it’s doing is illegal but it’s pushing forward anyway‚ promoting its SAVE scheme as a solution to America’s broken student loan system. In reality‚ the SAVE scheme is a desperate effort to curry favor and buy votes ahead of the next election‚” wrote Republican Reps. Virginia Foxx of North Carolina and Lisa McClain of Michigan‚ the principal sponsors of the bill‚ in a joint statement. “This scheme will leave mountains of debt at the feet of taxpayers while absolving millions of borrowers of their loans. What’s worse is that future borrowers will take on loans expecting forgiveness‚ which in turn encourages schools to raise tuition rates.” The idea that American taxpayers should bear the burden of student loans from individuals who willingly accepted them is absurd‚ and I will not stand by as the Biden Admin continues to push its unconstitutional student loan forgiveness program. pic.twitter.com/WvrJdMeqbR— Congressman Nathaniel Moran (@RepNateMoran) December 5‚ 2023 The SAVE plan would limit student loan repayments to 5% of a borrower’s discretionary monthly income‚ which is currently limited to 10%‚ and would forgive balances that were $12‚000 after 10 years. “This income-driven repayment plan will cut borrowers’ monthly payments in half‚ allow many borrowers to make $0 monthly payments‚ save all other borrowers at least $1‚000 per year‚” wrote the White House in a statement about the plan. The plan will also suspend monthly interest on the unpaid balance of loans‚ provided that a borrower makes their payments on time. It also raises the amount of income that can be classified as “discretionary” to 225% of the federal poverty level‚ which would cover most borrowers in occupations making $15 an hour. Unlike Biden’s original plan‚ which cited authority from the Higher Education Relief Opportunities for Students (HEROES) Act of 2003‚ the new plan has been made pursuant to the Higher Education Act of 1965‚ which circumvents the Supreme Court’s administrative law ruling in Biden v. Nebraska against the former plan. It modifies two federal loan programs‚ the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program and the Federal Family Education Loan Program. Foxx and McClain’s resolution was introduced under the Congressional Review Act‚ a statute that allows Congress to overturn regulations passed by the executive branch. In the Senate‚ CRA joint resolutions are not subject to a filibuster‚ which would enable the bill to pass both houses of Congress provided that 51 senators support it. “The SAVE plan is already helping close to 5.5 million Americans … ‚” wrote the Biden administration in a statement. “If the President were presented with H.J. The House will move next week to authorize an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden with regard to his family’s alleged influence peddling. Abbe Lowell‚ an attorney for Hunter Biden‚ said in a statement to The Hill that the payments for were for a truck‚ “The truth is Hunter’s father helped him when he was struggling financially due to his addiction and could not secure credit to finance a truck. When Hunter was able to‚ he paid his father back and took over the payments himself.” Biden family members owned multiple shell companies that raked in more than $20 million in foreign money. In July‚ Sen. But it does give the inquiry more credibility. In 2019‚ Republicans were heavily critical of then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for unilaterally declaring an impeachment inquiry into then-President Donald Trump for a Ukraine phone call. Eventually‚ the full Democrat-controlled House approved the impeachment inquiry. However‚ the House did not formalize an inquiry or hold hearings ahead of Trump’s second impeachment regarding the Jan. 6‚ 2021 Capital riot.  The full House voted to authorize an impeachment inquiry into both President Bill Clinton in 1998 regarding the Monica Lewinsky matter. and in 1974 into President Richard Nixon. In 1868‚ the House authorized the Judiciary Committee and the House Select Committee on Reconstruction to investigate the impeachment of Andrew Johnson‚ the first of only three presidents to be impeached by the House.  Johnson‚ Clinton and Trump were all acquitted in Senate trials. The objective of CyncHealth‚ as it emphasizes‚ is not simply to unite health records but to ensure they’re readily available to patients and their healthcare providers. Yet‚ critics such as Stacey Skold‚ Ph.D.‚ a board member of the Children’s Health Defense Nebraska Chapter‚ express their worry over how briskly this system has amassed health data. They perceive it as an alarming stride towards a digital ID and central bank digital currency (CBDC). The Nebraska government’s decision to establish statewide information exchange via CyncHealth and the associated data harvesting evoked concerns among privacy advocates. The investigative body was able to obtain‚ via a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) suit‚ a series of records demonstrating a comprehensive synergy between the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Information Security Agency (CISA) and a controversial entity‚ the Election Integrity Partnership (EIP). These files reveal a concerted effort to execute “real-time narrative tracking” on principal social media networks during the critical days leading up to the 2020 election. Interestingly‚ these records illustrate instances of social media post “takedowns” and an intentional avoidance of creating public records that would be subject to the FOIA process. These records also allow us a peek into the operations of EIP. Originally known as the Election Misinformation Partnership‚ it invested in monitoring online election discourse round the clock‚ especially prioritizing “disinformation that is going viral.” A lawsuit launched under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) gave Judicial Watch access to the records. The lawsuit was deemed necessary in response to a lack of transparency from the DHS‚ which did not respond to a formal request submitted by Judicial Watch on October 5‚ 2022. This data was part of an extensive request by Judicial Watch that included all communication records between CISA and EIP‚ minute details of a meeting between DHS officials and EIP members on July 9‚ 2020‚ and all records of communication between CISA and Stanford University’s Internet Observatory or the University of Washington’s Center for an Informed Public‚ specifically regarding the Election Integrity Partnership‚ the 2020 US election‚ online misinformation and disinformation‚ or various social media platforms. The Election Integrity Partnership‚ established right before the Presidential elections in July 2020‚ was composed of four major entities: Stanford Internet Observatory (SIO)‚ the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab‚ University of Washington’s Center for an Informed Public‚ and social media analytics firm Graphika. This partnership provided a valuable service to federal bodies‚ such as Homeland’s Cybersecurity Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA)‚ enabling them to file tickets for flagging or censoring specific social media posts and online stories. It also extended similar privileges to three liberal organizations – the Democratic National Committee‚ Common Cause‚ and the NAACP – along with the Homeland-funded Elections Infrastructure Information Sharing and Analysis Center. In 2023‚ a report by the Committee on the Judiciary and the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government revealed the drastic evolution of CISA. Established in 2018 to protect critical infrastructure from cyber threats‚ it had emerged by 2020 as the central conduit for domestic surveillance and censorship of social media by the federal government. CISA’s focus shifted to reporting supposed disinformation on social media. By the following year‚ they had officially formed a team specializing in misinformation‚ disinformation‚ and malinformation.
