Country Fans Are Convinced Cody Johnson Is Preparing To Finally Release His Cover Of “Travelin’ Soldier”

Is an official release of “Travelin’ Soldier” coming soon? You don’t have to look very far throughout country music history to find some legendary covers from different artists. From Chris Stapleton reinventing David Allan Coe’s “Tennessee Whiskey” and George Strait taking Terry Stafford’s “Amarillo By Morning,” to new heights to Johnny Cash completely transforming Nine Inch Nails’ “Hurt” and Luke Combs recently reintroducing Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car,” there have been countless beloved covers that have made a huge impact on artists and fans alike over the years. Over the past few years, in particular, it seems as if Cody Johnson’s cover of “Travelin’ Soldier” has become the most popular viral performance despite never officially being released on streaming platforms. With that being said, however, fans are now convinced that an official release is on the horizon. “Travelin’ Soldier,” of course, was first independently written, recorded and released by Bruce Robison in 1996 on his self-titled debut album. The track would then later be re-recorded by Ty England on his 1999 album, Highways & Dance Halls, before The Chicks, who were still going by Dixie Chicks at the time, released the song in 2002 and eventually scored a #1 hit on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart along with a platinum certification from the RIAA. As for Johnson’s cover, he first debuted it back in June 2020 during the height of the pandemic in a live stream with his backing band. At the time, fans loved it and, quite frankly, were just excited to get a taste of “live” music. Two years later, however, the “On My Way To You” singer and his cover of the track exploded in popularity upon the release of an acoustic cover posted to his YouTube channel in March 2022. As of today, the video has over 58 million views and 247,000 likes on YouTube alone. Of course, that’s not even counting the countless number of TikToks and other reposts of the cover on various platforms. Simply put, Johnson’s rendition of “Travelin’ Soldier” has remained one of the most beloved covers in the genre in recent history, and fans everywhere have been clamoring for an official release for nearly six years at this point. Given how the internet works, there have been rumors of the cover finally being released for years at this point. Taking a look at Johnson’s recent Instagram stories, it appears as if these long-time rumors might finally come to fruition. Yesterday afternoon, the Texas native decided to upload not one but FIVE different TikToks from fans throughout the years begging for the official release of his “Travelin’ Soldier” cover. Keep in mind, Johnson posted these stories seemingly at random. Taking notice of his Instagram stories, multiple fans would upload videos to TikTok to point out the odd timing of so many “Travelin’ Soldier” videos and further ask if an official release was coming soon. So, is Cody Johnson finally going to release his long-awaited cover of “Travelin’ Soldier” any time soon? The answer is ultimately unclear. While there is no official announcement present anywhere on Johnson’s social media, it looks as if he’s gearing up for an official release soon. As of now, we’ll just have to wait and see. Listen to the legendary cover here: Cody Johnson Tour Dates February 6-7 – Birmingham, Alabama – Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex February 13 – Champaign, Illinois – State Farm Center February 14 – Louisville, Kentucky – KFC Yum! The Ghost Of Hank Williams Is Frequently Spotted Haunting Downtown Nashville, Including The Ryman Auditorium & Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge

On any given Friday or Saturday night, thousands of people pack the streets of Lower Broadway in downtown Nashville, flowing in and out of the honky tonks, listening to the sounds of the bands from the windows on the street, or catching a show at the world-famous Mother Church of Country Music, the Ryman Auditorium. But what these thousands of people don’t know is that the ghost of Hank Williams may be walking among them too. While there are several legends of spirits that haunt the city of Nashville, everybody from confederate soldiers to Thomas Ryman, founder of the Ryman Auditorium, the one ghost that seems to make his way around town more than any of them is none other than country music legend Hank Williams. And many claim to have spotted Hank at the Ryman, the very same building that he was once banned from after being kicked out of the Grand Ole Opry. As one story goes, singer Bill Anderson was rehearsing for an Opry show when he started strumming a tune on his guitar – a song that happened to be a favorite of Hank’s. But as Anderson began playing the song, suddenly the building went dark – everything from the sound, the lights, and even the emergency exit signs. No cause was ever found for the power outage, and Anderson reportedly remarked that he believed the blackout was related to his playing of the song that Hank was so fond of. There have also been sightings of Hank’s ghost at the Ryman. According to one legend, a construction worker was accidentally locked inside the building during renovations in the early 1990s – and came face to face with Hank Williams Sr. himself. Still others believe they’ve seen the spirit of Hank himself hanging out in the alleyway behind the Ryman, and even at Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge. Occasionally, the ghosts of Hank (and other country legends) are seen slipping out of the back of the Ryman and across the alley into one of the nearby bars to have a drink – with some believing that Hank still hangs out in and around the Ryman because he was banned from the building all those years ago. Of course it makes sense that with Hank being one of the most frequent ghostly sightings in Nashville, there would be songs about seeing the spirit of the country music legend. There’s Alan Jackson’s “Midnight in Montgomery,” about paying a visit to Hank’s grave and being visited by his ghost. And you probably know “The Ride” by David Allan Coe, a tale about a guitar player being picked up by the ghost of Hank Williams as he was hitchhiking back to Nashville from Williams’ hometown of Montgomery, Alabama. But did you know that the songwriter of “The Ride” claims that the song was inspired by a conversation he had with none other than the ghost of Hank Williams himself? As Gary Gentry told The Tennessean back in 2015: “I was living at Country Place Apartments. I lit candles in the living room, and I wanted Hank to show himself. I wanted to write a masterpiece about Hank… I said, “Hank! Why were you so big? Just because you died young? Show yourself! Help me write this song.” I looked down that long hallway, and Hank was sitting there without a shirt on, on my couch, in the living room. And I said, “Hank, we’re gonna take a ride. I wanna write about you. I think you’re the greatest songwriter and entertainer that ever lived.” Thus, “The Ride,” at 4:00 in the morning.” But that’s not the only experience Gentry had with the spirit of the man who inspired his biggest song. Later, Gentry was performing “The Ride” for a TV show at the Grand Ole Opry House. And when he got to the line in the last verse revealing the character in the song to be the ghost of Hank Williams, all of the lights and power in the Opryland complex went out – just like they did on Bill Anderson. Apparently Hank has a way of making his presence known. So is the ghost of Hank Williams still roaming the streets of Nashville? Is he at the Ryman, still desperate to get back on the stage he was banned from so many years ago? Who knows. But the next time you’re in Nashville, keep your eyes peeled, and maybe you’ll just be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the country music legend for yourself. Zach Bryan Stirs The Pot With Another ICE Comment While Watching The Popular Halloween Movie “Hocus Pocus”

Stirring the pot. I’m sure you’ve heard about the controversy that erupted after Zach Bryan teased an unexpectedly political new song called “Bad News” earlier this month, which criticized the ongoing immigration raids by ICE and bemoaned the “fading of the red white and blue.” The song starts out pretty typical for a Zach Bryan song: “Didn’t wake up dead or in jail Some out of town boys been giving us hell I got some bad news I woke up missing you My friends are all degenerates but they’re all I got The generational story of dropping the plot I heard the cops came Cocky mother******* ain’t they?” However, once the song gets to its second verse, Bryan took aim at the ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement). And towards the end of the verse, the country star reveals that the “Bad News” he’s singing about is the “fading of the red, white and blue.” He also seems to lament the fact that Bruce Springsteen, who famously rants about Donald Trump at every concert, has lost some fans recently: “And ICE is gonna come, bust down your door Try to build a house no one builds no more But I got a telephone Kids are all scared and all alone The Boss stopped bumping, the rock stopped rolling The middle fingers rising and it won’t stop showing I got some bad news The fading of the red, white and blue” As you can imagine, the song has drew strong reactions from both sides of the political aisle. Many on the left are praising Bryan, while many on the right have criticized the song as anti-law enforcement and called for boycotts of Zach’s music. Even high up political figures like Kristi Noem, The Secretary of Homeland Security, called the song “completely disrespectful,” and the story in general made national headlines. The controversy surrounding the song eventually led the country star to take to his Instagram story last week to share an explanation, where Zach shared an explanation for “Bad News,” saying that the track actually celebrates how much he loves the United States of America, and that when fans hear the rest of the song, they’ll understand: “Please f***ing read this. I wrote this song months ago. I posted this song three months ago as a snippet. This shows you how divisive a narrative can be when shoved down our throats through social media. This song is about how much I love this country and everyone in it more than anything. When you hear the rest of the song, you will understand the full context that hits on both sides of the aisle. Everyone using this now as a weapon is only proving how devastatingly divided we all are. We need to find our way back.” The “Pink Skies” singer went on to mention that he served in the U.S. Navy for eight years, and clarified that he wasn’t trying to set himself up on a pedestal with this teaser. Instead, he’s hoping that when the full version of “Bad News is released (he makes it seem as though he’ll still put the song out), it’ll be a unifying song rather than one that divides… like people are painting it out to be: “I served this country, I love this country and the song itself is about all of us coming out of this divided space. I wasn’t speaking as a politician or some greater-than-thou a******. Just a 29-year-old man who is just as confused as everyone else. To see how much s*** is stirred up make me not only embarrassed, but kind of scared. Left wing or right wing, we’re all one bird and American. To be clear, I’m on neither of these radical sides. To all these disappointed in me on either side of whatever you believe in, just know I’m trying my best too, and we can all say things that are misconstrued sometimes. Everyone have a great day and I love each and every one of ya!” He continued: “The last few months of my life, I’ve been scrutinized by more people than I ever thought possible. I feel like I’ve tried  my hardest in so many ways and it’s so hard to see where my bearings even are anymore. Been falling off a cliff while trying to grow wings at the same time. I am SO proud to have served in a country where we can all speak freely and converse amongst each other without getting doxxed, or accosted on the internet, or worse; the violence and heartbreak we’ve faced in the last few months. God speed ol’ sons I’m out.” Other than that, we haven’t heard much else from him about the whole thing, but he seemingly hinted at it with a post on his Instagram stories late last night, where he shared a post of a photo from the classic Halloween movie Hocus Pocus, from the scene where two bullies find Max in a cemetery and demand cash, though Max doesn’t have any and they ultimately steal his shoes. One of the bullies insists he wants to be called “Ice” instead of his real name, Ernie, and even has the word “Ice” buzzed into his haircut on the back of his head. It has nothing to do with US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, but Zach took the scene and used it to stir the post. “The movie ‘Hocus Pocus’ was in the f***** FUTURE SON.” A world class troll…. Honestly, Zach ability to get people riled up is pretty comical, but it inevitably will be followed up with an apology, a deactivation of social media, and a cliche “I love everybody” platitude. If you want to be a troll, be a troll… don’t apologize for it. Seems he’s still planning to release the song eventually… Here’s the clip from the movie: @freeform This scene is so outrageously 90s and I love it. Taking fashion notes fr #HocusPocus #Halloween #90s ♬ original sound – Freeform And if you somehow missed hearing “Bad News” during the media firestorm, you can listen below.
