Toby Keith To Be Inducted Into The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum’s Hall Of Fame Along With Kenny Rogers
Another induction for the Big Dog Daddy.
It’s hard to believe we’re approaching two years since the tragic passing of the late, great Toby Keith. As we all know, the Oklahoma native passed away on February 5, 2024, at the age of 62 after a long battle with stomach cancer. Words can hardly describe the lasting impact he’s had on not only the genre itself but all his long-time fans, members of the military and the countless number of lives touched through his philanthropy, namely the Toby Keith Foundation, which benefitted pediatric cancer patients and their families.
Of course, from a legacy standpoint, few artists have matched the “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” singer’s career accomplishments. Beyond his recently-named status as one of the top touring artists of the millennium (#24 overall), Keith scored 41 Top 10 hits, 20 #1 singles, 10 #1 albums, 14 ACM Awards and a plethora of other awards throughout his illustrious career.
After posthumously being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame on October 20, 2024, later this year, the Oklahoma native will become a member of another major establishment in the country and western scene: the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum.
Just announced this morning, Keith, along with fellow Country Music Hall of Famer, Kenny Rogers, and Academy Award-nominated actor, Ed Harris, will be inducted into the museum’s Hall of Great Western Performers and Hall of Great Westerners.
With the induction, Keith and Rogers will join fellow country legends such as George Strait, Bob Wills, Vince Gill, Reba McEntire and Brooks & Dunn. As for Harris, he’ll join the likes of Burt Reynolds, Sam Elliot, Kurt Russell and many more as members of the Hall of Fame.
The “American Soldier” singer’s daughter, Krystal Keith, would express just how grateful she is for her father to be recognized by the museum, noting how the honor reflected the values and life Keith lived.
“This honor reflects the life my dad lived and the values he stood for. We’re grateful to the National Country & Western Heritage Museum for recognizing his place in the history and how his career served and celebrated the heritage of the country and Western way of life.”
Pat Fitzgerald, president and CEO of the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, would also comment on the induction of Keith, along with Rogers and Harris. Noting the trio’s work, both on the screen, in the studio and at large, Fitzgerald would praise their dedication to upholding the spirit of Western heritage.
“We are thrilled to announce the exceptional inductees and award winners for this year’s Western Heritage Awards. Each has helped carry forward the stories, values and traditions of the American West in meaningful and enduring ways. Their work — whether on screen, in song, in leadership or through lifelong service — ensures that the spirit of the West continues to inspire future generations.”
Along with the induction, Keith, Rogers and Harris will also receive a Wrangler from the museum, which is a bronze sculpture of a cowboy on horseback, created by fellow inductee, Harold T. Holden, a late Oklahoma artist.
The 65th annual Western Heritage Awards will be held on April 11, 2026, at the museum in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
