Queen’s guitarist Brian May performed with Offspring

Last May 15, the American Punk Rock band Offspring performed at the Starmus VII festival in Bratislava, Slovakia, which was created by astrophysicist Garik Isaraelian and Brian May (Who is also an astrophysicist). Curiously, Offspring's guitarist and vocalist Dexter Holland is also involved with science to some degree, since he earned a B.S. degree in biology, a M.S. degree in molecular biology and then a Ph.D. in molecular biology in 2017. The festival combined music, science and more. During Offspring's set, May joined them on stage, performing their song "Gone Way" and then a rendition of Queen's "Stone Cold Crazy". Watch Brian May performing with Offspring https://youtu.be/XQ2qTsr0Gb8 https://youtu.be/iagHmKlRuo4 Although the fans loved the performance, Brian May wasn't so sure about everything as he said in a post on his social media. "I've put a lot of passion and work into preparing this little adventure ... but this is not easy for an old soldier like me. In fact it's probably one of the most challenging things I've taken on for a long time. I felt very dissatisfied with what I came up with at last night's dress rehearsal." "So doing a lot of rethinking today while we all wait for showtime to come around. Why do I spend all these precious days away from home ? Pursuing ... what ? And self-doubt rears its scary head to the point where I wonder who the Hell I think I am. These are the kind of thoughts which beset performers, probably especially at my time of life." "This is the inner reality. But I'm also conscious I'm incredibly lucky to have an opportunity like this - to work in a completely unfamiliar environment with an extraordinarily talented man with his highly skilled team. Among it all I'm very grateful," Brian May said. The post Queen’s guitarist Brian May performed with Offspring appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Slash says B.B. King is his favorite Blues guitarist

The Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash is currently promoting his new covers album "Orgy Of The Damned", which is focused on Blues. He covered famous tracks from artists like Robert Johnson, Peter Green, Willie Dixon, Lightnin' Hopkins and Stevie Wonder. But in an interview with Total Guitar he actually revealed that his favorite Blues guitarist is actually the late B.B. King. Slash recalled that he was the first Blues musician he heard in his life because his grandmother used to play his music to him when he was a kid. Slash says B.B. King is his favorite Blues guitarist “He was the guy, when I was a kid, way, way before I ever thought of picking up a guitar, he was the first traditional blues artist that I was exposed to,” Slash says. “My grandmother played me B.B. King and it stuck with me. “I heard a lot of blues artists after that, all around the family and stuff, but B.B. King, the first time I ever heard it, it really stuck with me, and so he ended up being my favorite blues guitar player out of all the greats that I really dig,” Slash said. B.B. King sadly passed away back in 2015, a victim of multi-infarct dementia at the age of 89. But Slash was lucky enough to have performed with King live many times. One of the most famous encounters between the two happened at the Royal Albert Hall. They performed King's classic "The Thrill Is Gone" featuring Ronnie Wood, Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi. It was the last time Slash performed with the Blues musician. In the same conversation, Slash recalled that King was always very cordial to him and almost "fatherly". https://youtu.be/3uneA-cstZs Slash's new album has many special guests on vocals. Some of them are Chris Robinson, Billy Gibbons, Iggy Pop, Paul Rodgers and Brian Johnson. The post Slash says B.B. King is his favorite Blues guitarist appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Jimmy Page went to see The Black Crowes and praised their show

The legendary Led Zeppelin guitarist and producer Jimmy Page toured and recorded with the American band The Black Crowes in the 90s and early 00s and of course, they remained good friends over the decades. They are currently promoting their new album "Happiness Bastards" (2024) and performed at the Hammersmith Apollo in London last week. Page of course went to see the brothers Chris and Rich Robinson performing and praised the show in a post on his social networks. Although Page was there, he didn't perform with the band but they had another special guest. It was the Aerosmith vocalist Steven Tyler, who joined them on stage for the cover of "Mama Kin". Jimmy Page talked about watching The Black Crowes: "I saw The Black Crowes perform at the Hammersmith Apollo — and I must say, they were absolutely phenomenal." "It was so good to see brothers Rich and Chris Robinson reunited and back beyond their best. I was also impressed by the band’s new guitarist, Nico Bereciartua, from Argentina and also to hear Sven Pipien on bass once more." "During the encore, it was a thrill to watch as Steven Tyler emerged from the side of the stage to team-up with the band for a cover of Aerosmith's 'Mama Kin'. It was all such great fun and well done to Rich, Chris and the rest of the band for such an enjoyable and thrilling performance." "I really enjoyed my time playing with the Robinsons in the late 90s and year 2000 on the 'Jimmy Page & The Black Crowes' project, including our terrific 'Live At The Greek' release. I’d always thought The Black Crowes were an exceptional band, I always thought brothers Rich and Chris are great performers and musicians – I still do but now even more so," Jimmy Page said. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L89sJBmWv-I&pp=ygUZYmxhY2sgY3Jvd2VzIHN0ZXZlbiB0eWxlcg%3D%3DThe post Jimmy Page went to see The Black Crowes and praised their show appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Ian Anderson’s opinion on Ray Davies and The Kinks

Ian Anderson’s opinion on Ray Davies and The Kinks

The Scottish singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Ian Anderson is for almost six decades the driving force behind Jethro Tull. The band was formed in 1967 in England and became one of the most influential Progressive Rock groups in the history of music. Although the band was always focused on that sub-genre, Anderson has a really broad musical taste and already said he likes bands like Motörhead and Ramones, for example. Over the years he gave his opinion on many other artists, including Ray Davies and The Kinks. What is Ian Anderson’s opinion on Ray Davies and The Kinks By the time Jethro Tull released their debut album in 1968, The Kinks were already one of the most famous bands in England, frequently being put in the same category as The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, for example. Although they didn't sell the same amount of albums as those two groups, they remain as one of the most important groups from that era. Much of their success is credited especially for Ray Davies' songwriting. Anderson revealed in an interview with Classic Album Review transcribed by (Rock and Roll Garage) that he is a fan of the group and Davies. The musician praised him and talked about the uniqueness of his songwriting and singing. "I think Ray Davies is very much steeped in not just the Britishness. But the Britishness of a particular era and a particular geographical part. Because he is a singer who combines observation with some degree of personal feeling that comes across. He sounds like he is very credible. (He) has the authority to give you these vivid descriptions of London in the 60s and the 70s." "I don't necessarily do much of that sort of stuff. I mean, I've touched upon some elements of Britishness in terms of geography and setting a scene somewhere and being descriptive about it. Like the song 'Mother Goose', on the Aqualung album. Or 'Baker Street Muse' on whatever album that was, I can't remember off the top of my head. Again, hats off to Ray Davies for managing that genre in a way that directly communicates." He continued: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRUE0aAI5o8&pp=ygUWdGhlIGtpbmtzIGNvbWUgZGFuY2luZw%3D%3D "Because in the context of a pop song it wouldn't amuse or satisfy me to be doing that in my repertoire at all. I would find it just too pretty and too poppy but then I'm a little bit snobbish about music. I like something that got a bit more musical grits to it." "But lyrically and in terms of setting the mood melodically, he's been a brilliant contributor to the annals of British pop music history. He is right up there with the very best of anybody, including The Beatles," Ian Anderson said. Led by the brothers Ray Davies (Guitar and vocals) and Dave Davies (Guitar and sometimes vocals), The Kinks were active on and off from 1963 to 1996. Prolific songwriters, the band released 24 studio albums, the final one being "Phobia" in 1993. Since then the brothers focused on their solo careers, releasing a few solo records. They sold an estimated amount of more than 50 million records worldwide. Ian Anderson said in the 60s that The Kinks were "real people musically" Anderson already admired The Kinks back in the 60s, since he praised them in an interview with Melody Maker magazine back in 1969. The magazine used to promote a "blind date with music". They would play records to musicians without telling them which band was and then asking their opinion. During that conversation with Anderson, they performed The Kinks' album "Arthur (Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire)" released in 1969. Ian Anderson's response was: "It's something with life in it. It's like breathing again, I really like this one. It's not the Kinks is it? Great! Let me listen to a bit more." "The first thing that hits me about it is it's alive. They're real people musically. It's music at last and they're in control of what they are doing," The Jethro Tull frontman said. A celebrated Kinks album, Arthur had many famous tracks like "Victoria", "Drivin", "Australia" and "Shangri-la". Besides the Davies brothers, the band at that time was also formed by Mick Avory (Drums) and John Dalton (Bass). Their original bassist Pete Quaife was also featured in a few tracks from that album. The post Ian Anderson’s opinion on Ray Davies and The Kinks appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Donald Trump Decides Against Testifying in Hush-Money Trial, Defense Rests

Donald Trump’s defense team rested its case in his hush-money trial Tuesday, with the former president opting not to testify.   His lawyers wrapped up their case after their main witness, Bob Costello, a lawyer, completed his testimony in the morning. Justice Juan Merchan, the judge presiding over the case, dismissed the jury for the rest of the week and instructed them to return next Tuesday for closing arguments. He said he expected deliberations to begin the following day....

Michigan town fails to block China-affiliated battery plant

A judge has ordered a Michigan community to stop blocking efforts to bring a major electric vehicle battery business to a rural region. Gotion, a China-based manufacturer, was granted a preliminary injunction Friday after arguing that Mecosta County’s Green Township has refused to stick to an agreement made by elected officials who were subsequently removed from office. In the wake of the judge’s ruling, community leaders say their fight is far from over.

Armies of young insurgents are changing the course of a forgotten war

Two loudspeakers, as big as the men carrying them, are brought to the rocky hilltop. Some 800m below, in the town of Hpasang, lies a sprawling Myanmar army base. It’s a blisteringly hot day - above 40C - and behind, on bamboo poles, more young resistance fighters carry a large, heavy battery pack and amplifier. Leading the ascent is Nay Myo Zin, a former army captain who, after 12 years in the military, defected to the resistance. With his dark green camouflage jacket draped over one...
