‘SNL’ Cast Member Bowen Yang Says “Nothing Happened” With Morgan Wallen’s Viral Exit
Where there’s smoke there’s fire? Maybe not…
Of course, Morgan Wallen most recent viral controversy revolves around his appearance, and exit from, Saturday Night Live last weekend, which became a huge trending topic online – and still is a week later – because people seemed to think there might’ve been some bad blood between Morgan and the show.
During SNL’s signature end of show sendoff (where the cast, host and musical guest all say goodbye to the audience and hug and chat), the country music singer gave his pleasantries to host Mikey Madison and then walked right off the stage:

Not long after, Morgan posted an Instagram story of his plane with the caption:
“Get Me To God’s Country.”
Which added fuel to the fire, so to speak, in terms of people thinking something had happened during the week that caused tension, especially considering Morgan had been the musical guest before, participated in a sketch, and stuck around during the credits to talk to the other cast and crew.

TMZ spoke to a source close to Wallen about the incident, who said that Morgan meant nothing by his exit and he “entered and exited” the studio the same way he did in rehearsal and camera blocking all week:
“We’re told he entered and exited the studio the same way he did Saturday night during rehearsal and camera blocking all week leading up to the live show… so he routinely headed that way when he thought it was time to go.”
People have been trying to get to the bottom of this whole thing ever since, and one we heard theories about executive producer Lorne Michaels being rude, and other SNL cast members have spoken out about it, and according to Page Six, things weren’t exactly going well all week leading up to Saturday. They learned from a source that Morgan “declined” to be part of a sketch, and last-minute, they brought in pop star Joe Jonas of the Jonas Brothers to save the day, so to speak.
They claim that Morgan was “not super friendly” to others on set, and there was “no joy”:
“[Morgan] was asked but declined, so they got Joe instead. They had hopes he would do the pre-tape and perhaps more, but no joy.”
They added that Morgan “did what he was asked” by performing as the musical guest, but that was the extent of it, and it was apparently the same insider that shared the previous information about Morgan entering and exiting “the same way” at the end of the show as he did in rehearsals all week.
Honestly, I don’t really care that much, but SNL of course took a chance to poke fun at it all during the show this past weekend which featured Jack Black as the host, and you can watch the sketch here:

And during an episode of Jenna & Friends this morning, which was co-hosted by SNL cast member Bowen Yang and featured his fellow SNL co-worker Kenan Thompson as a guest, Jenna Bush Hager asked both of them about Morgan’s exit. They said the whole thing didn’t become water cooler conversation at all, and Bowen assured her that “nothing happened”:
“This is the God’s honest truth: Nothing happened, and so even after it happened, we all just showed up to work the next day because it’s like, you’ve just got to move on to the next thing.”
Thompson, who previously spoke on what happened, echoed Bowen’s sentiments and said they’ve all moved on and have no issues with Morgan:
“You’ve gotta move on. and I wish we would give more props to Mikey, because she had a great show, and we would like to echo that a little more.”
With everything I’ve heard about this saga since it went down, it’s hard to imagine that nothing happened at all, especially considering Morgan’s first time there was so different. But at the same time, you have to imagine they’re certainly not going to start airing out all the shows dirty laundry on national TV now, as SNL has always been pretty tight-lipped when it comes to stuff like this.
You can watch the clip here:
Morgan, on the other hand, took advantage of the viral moment and put out merch with he new signature slogan “Get me to God’s country,” and honestly, I imagine all of this press is helping way more than it would’ve had there been no issues or notable moments from his musical performance.
He is gearing up for a huge album release for I’m The Problem on May 16th, and has a subsequent stadium tour happening this summer.
